So what if Kidd can't shoot to beat zones. Why is Kidd overrated? The only skill he lacks is a consistent outside shot. It's not exactly like we're putting up good offensive numbers right now. I'd trade Steve for Kidd in a second. I do agree with GATER that we don't have the finishers that the Nets do, but I think our overall offensive output would be better with Kidd regardless.
If they are trading the players for financial reasons, why would they pick up Steves contract??? Btw I too would not trade Francis just yet. as for Kmart, just wait till he makes fun of Yao, and then socks him in the Jaw. This board will crumble with all the trade Mart threads
Whoever thinks Kidd is overrated is smoking crack. The Rockets would be a top four team in the elague if they could fix two problems lack of ball movement and too many turnovers - Kidd solves both of these. Not too mention the other intangibles he adds - he runs a great fastbreak, he is a true on the court leader, he doesn't just pass often but he passes well, to teammates in their comfort zones, he is a solid defender, he's consistenly been in the playoffs, he's a veteran presence (something this team is sorely lacking). There are few players in the entire league right now who I'd prefer over Kidd - Garnett, Duncan...that's probably it.
Kidd is way overrated. He didn't do jack in the western conference and I would argue that NJ would have been just as good if they would have kept Starbury. Kidd doesn't know how to use post players. He is good at getting quick athletic guys the rock for easy buckets. Look at how they mis-used Mutumbo in NJ. Mutumbo is doing just fine in NY but he sucked ass in NJ. Dominant big guys need point guards that can consistently make teams pay for doubling down. Kidd is not that person. We need a point guard in the Kenny Smith, Steve Kerr, Derek Fisher mold except we need to find one that can play D.
Kidd is an awesome point guard for this team. But his contract is huge and He is really old. His shooting is suspecious and his knee/ankle is injured more often than necessary. I am not sure how many years Kidd has, definite not 7 years. On the other hand, Steve Nash/Baron Davis/Marbury would be awesome PG for this team!
What does that have to do with the team's turnover level as a whole or, more importantly, their assist to turnover ratio. Kidd has been near the top of the league so often in terms of turnovers not because he endlessly massages the ball until he is forced to make a bad pass, but because he simply is moving the ball so often. If you can't see how the addition of Kidd will enormously improve the team's assist:turnover ratio then you haven't been watching basketball the past few years.
As Rockbox previously mentioned I think Derek Fisher would be are perfect backup because he acutually does play hard D. In addition to his hustle, nice jump shot and clutch 3 pointers. If anything was missing from the Rockets right now it would be a Derek Fisher and a Brian Grant or Antonio Davis type player from about 5 years ago a Malik Rose if you will.
There's no way Kidd will be anything more than a shell of his All-Star self once he's 4 years into his contract. His knee is already looking bad, and he may have surgery on it before the All-Star break if their squad keeps losing. I'll take a Francis slowly coming into his prime. K-Mart's fine as long as someone hits him in the head and helps him realize he's not a max contract player. Evan
