I would only take Kidd if we gave up nothing but expiring contracts in return. No draft pick. No rotation player. Just contracts. You have to take some risks to get better, but the big contract is risk enough. That being said, trading cap space for talent is a great way to get ahead in the NBA. Look at the Mavs. They traded Antoine Walker's expiring deal to Atlanta and got Jason Terry in return, who virtually won a playoff series for them by himself. Atlanta didn't even want Walker, but gave up real talent for the expiring contract. If someone is going to give you something for nothing, then that's the quickest way to get ahead.
your analysis is bullsh!t. what does kidd not playing in new york have anything to do with him not playing in houston???? again, bullsh!t.
The hell with trading for Kidd. Somethings gotta give in NJ but if it comes down to us going after one of their stars, we should try to get Jefferson. Sure, we already screwed this up once and RJ hasn't shown any indication of wanting out but at this point all Thorn probably really cares about is going cheap & making his move to Brooklyn. I know this suggestion is unlikely but stranger things have happened.
... at all costs? Five future first rounders + Badiane + Sponoulis + Mike James + one future second rounder + JVG + TC ownership + Yao mama + CD's wife...
The series with Dallas really exposed how tough the playoffs are for older players. Can we expect for kidd to play well durring the gind of the playoffs as he gets into the latter years of his carrer?
You obviously have crappy sources! My guys tell me that since Jeff van Gundy and Avery Johnson made nicey-nice, that once the playoffs are over, Johnsonis going to resign his position and become the Rocket's starting PG!!! Evidently what started their little skirmish was that Johnson felt slighted over not being asked to run the Rocket's offense last season. Gundy explained that it was due to the fact that Johnson never played for the Knicks and that he (Gundy) is trying to get better about giving other geriatrics more opportunities. You heard it here first!
Several interesting points have been made in this thread for not getting Kidd (age, salary, injury), but the truth is those are merely conversasional topics and moot in the grand scheme of things. At the end of the day this league is measured by wins, losses, and playoff performance. Can Kidd help in those areas? I tend to think so. BTW; talent and potential are wonderful things to have but do not guarantee to keep that proverbial window of opportunity open. You have to maximize your potential while the opportunity is there, just ask Sacramento.
Why people care about Kidd's passing? We don't need a top passing assisting point guard with T-Mac and Yao on the team. An above average pg will suffice. We do need a third scorer and we can get it in a cheaper and younger player. Getting Kidd will be like forfeiting three players, two full MLE types and one solid addition, also the flexibility to reshuffle the roster. As long as we have Yao and T-Mac we are a magnet for years to come. Why pin all the hope on one guy? We should let Yao and T-Mac decide the fate of this team, not Jason Kidd.
Let me be a part of your minority group because I too feel as though Kidd can help this team tremendously. Go big or go home. Get the Kidd!
Anyone else hear CD on 790 around 4ish today?? When CP asked CD about the Kidd thing, CD just laughted and said something like "uuhhh, yeah and where would we put the 80 million that he's due??"
New Jersey will drive Kidd to the airport if the Rockets offer their expiring contract trio of Spoon, Baker, and Moochie. This isn't the Jason Kidd of the mid-late 90's. His knees are holding on by a thread, and he probably can't go more than 65 games/season. This is a very short-sighted move that could end up costing us a chance at a future dynasty. The Rockets would be better off going with a lower cost alternative. With the money Kidd makes, we could get ourselves some serious depth at the 1, 3, and 4 spots.
This thread is surreal. While the future CBA still in doubt, it's almost certain the owners are not going to give up the luxury tax in a time of declining ratings. So start crunching numbers if you expect Alexander to pay Kidd's salary and then tell me the two or three players you'd really rather have for two or three years. I think Kidd could still be miraculous for Yao and T-Mac but neither one needs a window of two years for (realistically) winning a championship and screwing the team for four more.
just say hell yeah to Kidd. Come think about it we'd have swept the sh*t out of the mavs if we had him in this series. re- watch game 3, game 4, game 5, and game 7. what we lacked was a point guard who could create shot for his teammates. I'm sorry I love sura's tough warrior mentality too but he just doesn't have the pg quality we needed when the game was on the line. We relied too much on Tmac handling the ball. He had to create his own shot all game long while guarding Dirk. Game 7 showed that as amazing as Tmac was, he is still human. he just couldn't do it all by himself, he is just no Jordan and Yao is not O'neal. sure I'm shortsighted since Kidd is overpaid and getting old, whatever. With Sura, barry, and wesley we did our best if not overachieved this year imho. I really don't think we can do much better next year with the same group of players. But I like our chance very much with Kidd and Howard getting healthy next year. Instant Champ contender. If we can win 2 titles with Tmac, Yao, and Kidd then I'm all for it. we don't need anybody to have more rings than Dream All I'm saying is that we are about to play the Suns in an hour, if we had Kidd.
If the queen had balls she'd be the king. Also the 2004-05 Jason Kidd cannot be had he is in the rate of diminishing performance returns yet increasing cost. Seriously I cannot fathom why this is even a discussion. I'm glad to hear Dawson laughed it off. The Nets have bad contract syndrome just like their bigger brother Knicks. Remember they were still paying Deke what $14+ million this year combine with the $4+ million he was making from us Deke was the second highest paid player in the NBA after Shaq. That's about how smart the Nets are at player contracts....
Kidd, SAR -- let's bring all the Cal Golden Bears here! I hear Sean Marks is a free agent ... Go Bears! p.s. Kidd the lousy shooter's 36% from 3 last year would have been good for 5th on the Rox.
