I think Apple patented a game controller, I'm not sure.

Seven hours to go. I'm torn on this. I know I'll regret not getting one if they're scarce at launch.

Anyone who ordered received their Ouya yet? It sounds like the shipping is taking longer than expected because most of the later backers still haven't gotten an email notifying them of the shipment. I'm eagerly awaiting mine.

After quality issues, and broken promises of features from past kickstarters, I've become weary of spending any money for a launch product.

This is just going to be a pirates dream console. No publisher will make money on this

I don't think so. Part of the reason this console appeals to people is not because of the hardcore gamers that know how to pirate software and get stuff for free. Those guys are happy with their PS3s and Xbox 360s and PC games. This is for the family with little kids that would like to be able to let their kids play their favorite Angry Birds game (or equivalent) without having to give them their phone. Those people aren't going to bother figuring out how to download a $5 or $10 game for free, they're just going to buy it.

Ultimately it will all depend on the developers and if they really put forth the effort to make games for this system, but I honestly don't see piracy being a huge hurdle.

You are underestimating people. Piracy on android is as easy as checking an option in the settings and then downloading an apk file from the tons of websites that have them. No hacking is needed. Its as easy as going to the Play store.

I guess I don't understand this so well. All of the android/ios games that could be reworked for this are touch screen based. But this system is controller based. How are people going to play angry birds with a controller?

Not that complicated- just a little extra code to make the controls work. Angry Birds was already ported to the Roku for use with an accelerometer based controller (like the Wiimote).

I thought that black strip down the middle of the controller was a touch screen. Not quite as big as a iphone screen but probably big enough for most games. I might be remembering wrong, though.
