Word on The Street is that the Texans are taking calls on Davis Mills ... only asking for 2 first round picks down from three.

    Nah…

His rookie year, he sat behind Jimmy G, because that was the smart thing to do to let him learn by watching.

When Jimmy got hurt that season, Lance played a handful of games and had typical up and down games a rookie QB would have.

Oddly enough, Lance’s best game as starter his rookie season was against the Texans.

Year 2, 49ers named him the starter and he played in one game that was a monsoon and then broke his ankle the next game.

Purdy came in later in the season after Jimmy got hurt AGAIN and Purdy looked like Joe Montana Jr. So with GOOD REASON, the 49ers wanna go with Purdy as their long term QB.

People that use the “Lance is a bust” argument leave out information and it kinda tells me a lot about how closely they pay attention.

Brock Purdy might miss ALL of 2023. The 49ers are a team with superbowl aspirations. They're still willing to move on.

A bigger indictment is they went out and signed Sam Darnold.

If they believe Sam Darnold gives them a better chance to win than Trey Lance... that's all you need to know.

Per the rumor mill, they are taking calls….they are not actively shopping him.

They are in the position of ‘we can do nothing and wait for Lance stock to rise even more’….or ‘you can get him now and offer us something to make us interested to part ways.’

    Either way….they are chillin.

Im not a 49er fan and admittedly I didnt keep up with their QB carousel. The Shanahan offense made Matt Schaub into a pro bowler and had us convinced he was the guy - until he wasnt. If Kyle is giving up on Lance then Im out. I'd rather roll the dice with a rookie QB from this draft.

I wouldn't call Trey a BUST but I'll admit, he looks very raw. And I thinks, it's due to him not playing much.

If you look at his film, he reminds me of Deshaun Watson in his first two professional games; the game against Jville and Cincy.

If it's a 2nd this yr or a 3rd and 4th....DO IT! It's not like Nick hasn't BLOWN draft picks in the past. At worst, if he doesn't work out you draft a QB next yr.

This is exactly my thoughts on it.

As long as it doesn't cost a 1st.

And if he ends up not working out, fine….

But if he DOES end up paying off and reaching his potential, you got a solid QB for the price of a 2nd or combo of a 3rd and another 3rd or 4th, and you filled in as many holes in other places as possible while finding your QB.

It just makes sense to test it out if the option is there.

I would totally be behind offering 3-73 and a conditional 2024 5th pick.
2024 pick = 1st if Texans in AFCCG (low 1st for a FQB); 2nd if Texans make playoffs (low 2nd for a potential FQB); 3rd if Texans win 11 games; 4th if Texans over .500
You can set the conditional pick to protect the Texans and reward the 49ers.
I honestly think this would be the best move on draft day if Panthers go Young at 1. And this is coming from an ARich fan.

If our coaches are on board for it, trade a third this year and an incentive based fourth that could escalate to a third next year for him. He gets one year to prove himself, and if he sucks, you trade the farm to try to get a better quarterback next year.

That's the scenario I would follow if you are not sold on any quarterback in this year's draft outside of Bryce Young.
