absolutely agree with u on that. My girl is white and she dated a hispanic dude b4 me. She told me what u said about latin/mexican guys whenever a girl comes around, i didnt believe her at first cos i felt all guys do that so its no biggie, but after 3 yrs, i know she's right.

 

Lamar is roughly 36% white, 31% hispanic, 27% black, and 5% Asian...so how is you saying Lamar is over 40% "Mexican" the truth (I know you said foreign born but then you thanked Mexico so obviously you think they are the bad ones)?

 

How many fights are those 2 girls going to get into at CEP where all the kids speak spanglish, slangish, ebonics, mexi-bonics, etc?

Another irony, and I'm pretty damn sure of this, those girls probaby don't speak proper spanish.

Not to mention the obvious, the school is located in River Oaks. Are all the hispanic kids there being bussed in from worse neighborhoods?

Not that surprising. A good friend of mine is an hispanic who doesn't speak a lick of Spanish and when we were kids, he'd get crap all the time about it. But, he was born in Texas, his parents were born in Texas -- how many generations have to carry this linguistic duty?

It says something, btw, about the folks who are worried that the Mexicans are taking over. We have a lot of hispanics in Texas, but culturally they are mostly Americans, not Mexicans.

Once, my sister (who is white but looks a bit hispanic for some reason) and my wife (who is black and Chinese and often confused for hispanic) were sitting outside the house and a class of black elementary school kids walk by. The teacher tell the kids this is their chance to practice their Spanish. That didn't get very far.

well i get my "stereotypes" from being with a mexican girl for nearly 5 years. like i said...you learn how things are. yes i am not an idiot and i know that not every latin person in the world is the same, but you learn how things in the society are after being around it. i love being around latin people and i love the history and culture but crap like this weekend pisses me off. it's the reason why my gf won't date latin guys.

I'm not sure what to say about this...sounds like hatred more than just ignorant...Not all guys are the same, and neither are races...Some guys are a-holes, and some aren't, period...To stereotype that is kind of silly..

To the topic at hand, it is sad, but some kids are just ignorant and don't know any better...Doesn't make it right...

and with respect to the story...i didn't see you saying anything about how terrible the situation was. all i saw was you saying basically the guy didn't get it.

 

so now you're an expert on Mexican culture just cause you've dated a mexican girl for 5 years? really? i'm sorry, but that's just stupid, i don't think that if i dated a chinese girl for 5 years i would be an expert on Chinese culture

 

the only thing i'm basing my views on is just my LIFETIME of being hispanic and being around hispanic culture, but i have not seen this overexaggerated stereotype in my daily life, but then again, i was born and raised in Texas

i didn't really see how your story had anything to do with this thread, it really came out of left field, but you're absolutely right, i'm sure it was a horrible situation to be in, it's unfortunate that it happened

 

Except he's not saying that all hispanic men are the same. He's saying that there is a greater percentage of hispanic men that have this atribute than other races based on his experience. You may think that stereotyping is silly, and it may be when people use stereotypes as a guideline on how to treat individuals. But I think that it's equally silly to think that all races are completely equal in every way.

 

What makes you think i'm stereotyping based on something I saw on tv? I'd wager I have alot more firsthand experience with this than you do.

no but you would have a clue with how things work when a white guy (or any non-chinese guy) is dating a chinese girl. and i'm pretty sure you would pick up a thing or 2 about chinese culture. also, i've learned about mexican/latin culture because i tried to learn about it thru school, books, and any documentary/educational programs i catch on tv. and when things negatively effect you then you tend to remember those too. i really don't even care to continue this conversation because you have me typed as a racist so my point isn't even getting thru.

i am mainly just venting because of this weekend and no this obviously isn't the first time that this situation has occured. ok i am busy at work so it is taking me like 10 minutes to type out 1 reply. gtg.
