Doc Rivers : Coaching Aptitude :: Penguin : Ability to Fly I think Doc shut it down way before the game was over (not that he does much coaching anyway). All of a sudden KG starts dunking and the fans get vocal and his brain jump-starts "oh yeah I should take him out." I think it's your job as coach to know and manage your players 48 minutes per game, and he dropped the ball. If Doc left KG in there on purpose then my opinion lowers from here.
All I can hope for is a 2nd round match up of the Magic and Celtics, so Dwight can facial on KG all night long.
You gotta hope someone besides the Celtics make it out of the East. You're basically hoping for a huge and I do mean huuuuggggeee upset by another team in the East that matches up well with the Celtics.
From my limited knowledge acquired by reading Bill Simmons columns regarding Doc Rivers, he's an idiot.
The KG I know has always been a loser, only been out of the first round of the playoffs once, loves to show fake emotion, and tries to act hard, but is really a b!tch: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XrUH3pwj9Ik&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XrUH3pwj9Ik&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Look at him throw the ball at McDyess and try and get a cheap shot in and then run away like a girl.
Rafer was just trying to get the ball across halfcourt to end the game, The lakers deserved his showboating. KG is a tool, but i blame it on Doc, he let KG back out on the court. I'm really surprised someone hasnt planted a really hard foul on KG when hes padding stats like that at the end of the game.
You guys are missing the point of that dunk.... he's not a punk for doing it, he's a badass for doing it. This game was on national TV with the world watching and after his team utterly dismanteled the #1 seed in the West, he threw it down right in front of their bench to let everyone know that "THE CELTICS OWNED THE ROCKETS, ON THE ROAD, AND ENDED THE 2ND GREATEST WINNING STREAK OF ALL TIME" It sucks I know, but thats why he did it...
This thread fails. I may not always like KG's fire (it gets the best of him sometimes), but you can't deny his passion for the game and his determination to win. He plays great defense, plays unselfishly, and does all the blue collar work even though he's a superstar.
Fixed it for you, the guy is probably the best complimentary player of all time, but NOT a superstar.....nope nope nope... DD
KG can do whatever he wants, but imo no championships for him ever. I don't see boston winning a championship this year or the next. Try to beat the lakers, spurs, suns, rockets (w/Yao) in a 7 game series? don't think so. KG will have as many rings as chuck.
You are probably the only other person (than DaDakota) to remember Dan Langhi throwing down an alley-oop.
That's what it was all about, and I'm surprised that not more posters here understand that. His team just laid-down one of the best defensive games of the season against the team with the second longest streak in NBA HISTORY, on their home court, in front of a rabid fan base, while also being on national TV. You can bet that the pride of accomplishing that meant something to guys like Garnett and Pierce. Furthermore, it is incredibly foolish to think that Garnett won't play full-speed and show emotion until the clock reads 0:00. He's done it his whole career, and I'd expect nothing less from him at this point. If you want to blame someone, blame Doc Rivers. Garnett shouldn't have even been out there at that point. I hope you don't consider T-Mac a superstar then.
The Celtics are just really, really, really, really good. I agree with the sentiment that it was unnecessary, but think of all the things our players do that could be construed as unnecessary. Rafer's between-the-legs dance against the Lakers (yes, he was showboating), and also the look-back-stare at Cassell on that steal+layup. I mean, Deke's finger wag has infuriated many an opponent. The Celtics thrashed us on our home court. Sorry if I see no difference between what KG did and what our players do sometimes. When you're hot, you show off. You send that message of "Yeah, you got owned." It's part of the excitement of the NBA. Rockets just need to regroup and focus on beating NO in NO tonight.
The one thing I remember from that incident is Francis getting all up in Larry's face. He was defending Langhi and Brown just kept screaming at him and the officials. It was pretty funny. Bill and Calvin were trying to act nonchalant about it.
I didn't mind it all that much. I just wish the rockets had given him a hard foul on that dunk or the next dunk attempt. They had been defending the rim pretty hard all night, but decided to let up there.
