Houston Trade Breakdown Outgoing Yao Ming 7-6 C from China (Foreign) 18.3 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 0.8 apg in 30.6 minutes Incoming Kevin Garnett 6-11 PF from Farragut Academy (HS) 22.2 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 5.7 apg in 38.0 minutes Change in team outlook: +3.9 ppg, +5.1 rpg, and +4.9 apg. Failed Scenario Due to Minnesota and Houston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Minnesota and Houston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here (only Minnesota met the condition). This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This won't be happening.
Not that I'm saying do this trade, but KG is also averaging nearly 6 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 57% per game, too.
I doubt the Rockets would trade Yao for anyone. He's a "Cash Yao". HA! Think about it - you're running a business, would you trade for anyone when you're giving up a market of a billion people for Jersey's? Why do you think the Rocket's unis look so...Chinese maybe?
Honestly, it all depends as to who your owner is. If we had a Mark Cuban, he wouldn't hesitate for a second to trade Yao's marketability for a bonafide superstar like KG in hopes to pair him up with McGrady and have a better shot at a championship. However, most owners in the NBA are in it for the money, and winning is good only as it contributes to 'excitement' about the team and therefore it helps roll in more revenue. Les Alexander is much like most owners in the NBA, and he's rightly more concerned about his pocketbook than improving his chances of winning a championship. Afterall, it's not like the two championships the Rockets won in the mid-90s helped make the team any more marketable. In that sense, Yao is a very rare 'product' that's near impossible to replace. I think if I were an NBA owner (and wasn't named Mark Cuban) I would never trade Yao for anyone, it just isn't a 'sound' business decision; that's just "business 101".
For whatever reason, I've had this haunting dream since Shaq was traded away from the Lakers that eventually KG and Kobe would unite in a Laker unifrom, and I just can't get over than nightmare. I don't know, it's just a 'gut' feeling I guess. A scary thought indeed
I like Yao, and I like seeing him in a Rockets uniform... but if the TWolves were crazy enough to do this, then I'd pull the trigger on the trade in a heartbeat!
The Rockets without TMac are the same thing as the T-Wolves. Actually, Minny has better supporting cast around KG than we have around Yao. If KG were traded here and TMac were out, his stats would actually go down over what he is doing in Minny. I think I'd still do the trade because TMac and Yao would be killer together but without TMac on the floor the Rox would still stink just as bad, until their guards start shooting it and start defending dribble penetration.
what is up with some of the people on this board? i realize it's a rockets fan site, but yao is not at the same level as kg. i hope yao keeps getting better and can one day be mentioned as a top 5 player in the league, but at this point no reasonable person would say that yao is as good/comparable to kg.
What's your point? Yes, KG is better than Yao. TD is better than Yao. As a player, LBJ is better, TMac is better. By the way, MJ was great, and Dream was great. The Sun rises from the east. You would ask me what's my point to site those obvious. I don't have one. But now, what's your point again?
So KG would do a better of job of having the supporting cast make their shots? Got it. You should apply for the GM position for the Rockets. Awesome. riiiiiiiiiiiight. I don't even have that many posts, but you have even less...if anyone with so few posts, starts a thread with the word trade in it, they should be ignored.
also need guy can do the dirty job inside. KG is not POWER forward inside. He takes his shoot mostly from jumper. And I don't knwo if they can beat SPURS/Pistons
down 1 who would you rater have with the ball in his hand k.g or yao??I would take k.g any day over yao..
Did you watch the Rockets-Timberwolves game? Down 1 and having the ball in the hands of KG or Yao with not supporting cast will yield the same result. KG in the fourth was swormed and made to give up the ball ... kind of the same thing Yao is going through now.
It couldn't be done this season b/c Yao is in the 4th year of his rookie contract. It would make sense next season when Yao gets the Max and KG is still making the max or more. Yao is no KG but the nly fair trade for KG would be Tim Duncan. Remember the Francis-TMac trade. Obviously Francis is not in the same leauge as T-Mac so Orlando had to trade for less talents. Yao is in no way a bust, he is a complete asset. It is beginning to seem however that he is not a super star that we all expected. He averages 20 and 10 but look how much effort is put into delivering him the ball. So far this season passes to Yao in the post have led to 3+ turnovers a game. Many times when Yao has great stats, the rockets don't operate very smoothly. I want what is best for the Houston Rockets and these are just a few thoughts on this topic.
