man if KG signs for 4 years 119 million... it will be the most crippling signing ever!

God you know how much money is locked up in those three?

so its official huh. Well we cant go after gomes or green. I had a question though. If we had the opportunity, would you trade alston and the second rounder we might get for jl3 for gerald green? I might b a little biased since i see a lot of potential from him and dont wanna see another home town boy ball it up somewhere else like rashard..

I wouldn't say Ainge is the executive of the year. He's gonna be way over the cap.

Celtics should drop Doc Rivers and go for JVG.

Pierce-KG-Allen is the perfect trio for Gundy to coach. All 30+ that Gundy likes. Plus, they just sacrificed their future for win-now mode. Gundy is always in that mode. With a superstar lineup set and a pathetic conference to boot, it would be a perfect chance for Gundy to go deep in playoffs.

Plus, if Gundy joins Celtics, he would give us plenty for his boy, Rafer.

Gundy has to be salivating to coach the Celctics.....

heck ya but problem is that he wouldnt get pt here to develop compared to minnesota. maybe for ryan gomes i would still do the trade to help the front court issues.

no sense to bring up JVG. 1) he had tmac and yao (under 30). 2) rockets didnt sacrifice their future, unless you count rudy g@y "the future" (in which case i will giggle). 3) he's gone deep in the playoffs.

boston can afford to be. If that team starts to create the slightest bit of buzz its a cash cow.

im more interested to see how they fill out the rest of the roster. they only have 10 or 11 players. they are going to pull a rockets and go D-league fishin

Deep in the playoffs in a weak eastern conference? Perfect! He can get his chance at it again then.

You are stuck on automatic as Gundy's D.A. That post wasnt even meant to bash Gundy as much as imply that he fits in nicely with the players they have there and the situation (weak conference means great chance) but oh the sensitive side in you just had to cry boo hoo for Gundy...*laugh*

Adding to what I was saying...Celtics should drop Doc Rivers and go for Jeff Van Gundy.

    The reason being....

    1) Trio consists of all 30+ experienced players that Gundy likes to coach.
    2) Garnett fits Gundy's paint defense philosophy.
    3) All 3 can play in slow half-court offense.
    4) Celtics need to cover the holes left in the trade and Gundy's defense can cover those holes.
    5) Celtics are in win-now mode and Gundy is always in that mode. He has always been more than willing to sell the future for whatever he can get right now.
    6) He has taken his team to Finals in a pathetic Eastern Conference before.
    7) Doc Rivers is... eh...inadequate.

    Downside is that.....

    1) Even with that explosive lineup, Celtics could potentially be one of the most boring teams to watch with Gundy coaching.
    2) Celtic fans will have to deal with Gundy's doghouse.
    3) They can kiss goodbye to all draftpicks translating into youngsters. Do they even have any left?
    4) They will be sporting a geriatric lineup for next couple of years.

There are negatives but Gundy should be able to deliver the goods with KG-Pierce-Allen.

I agree with you, but instead of Van Gundy I would get Rick Carlisle.

I disagree with that. Aelliot would clearly know better, but extensions don't count as heavily against the cap as straight-up signing a free agent to the same deal. At least I don't think so.

Celtics obtain former MVP in 7-for-1 deal

BOSTON — All-Star Kevin Garnett was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to Boston on Tuesday for five players and two draft picks, a deal that transforms the Celtics into an instant contender.

The Celtics — who have 16 championships but none in more than two decades — obtained the former MVP and 10-time All-Star from Minnesota for forwards Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and Gerald Green, guard Sebastian Telfair and center Theo Ratliff and two first-round draft picks.

With Paul Pierce and Ray Allen already on the roster, the Celtics are now far more than a promising collection of youngsters who had the NBA's second-worst record last season in a mediocre Eastern Conference.

Besides the 34-year-old Ratliff, the four players going to the Timberwolves are 22 or younger.

The Celtics were reluctant to part with Jefferson, but he was key to the deal for Minnesota. He had a breakout season in 2006-07, his third with Boston, when he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds after struggling with injuries the previous season.

The teams had discussed a trade for the 6-foot-11 Garnett, the NBA's leading rebounder last season, before the draft on April 26. But he didn't want to go to Boston and the Celtics didn't want to give up Jefferson.

But the acquisition of Allen, 32, in a draft-day trade with Seattle to go with Pierce, 29, may have helped change Garnett's mind because it makes the Celtics more competitive in the next few years. It also gave Garnett, 31, a better chance at a title after Minnesota missed the last three playoffs in the tough Western Conference.

Led by Garnett's MVP season, the Timberwolves came within two wins of the NBA finals in 2004. The forward averaged 24.2 points and a league-high 13.9 rebounds that season, joining Larry Bird as the only players to average at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for five consecutive years.

But Minnesota has fired two coaches and not made the playoffs since. Garnett never said he was unhappy and never asked to be traded but expressed frustration with some of vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale's personnel decisions and challenged him to upgrade the roster.

Letting Green go feels like a mistake. He has enough upside to be better than both Allen and Pierce.

Looks like he should start for Minni, so look for him to have a nice season.

So who plays Center and Point Guard for the Celtics? I mean, not like it matters in the East, but I'm curious.

Well it's a win now situation for the celtics without any dept. This won't be good for them.

I like KG and Ray Allen, so I hope they do well...They should, given how weak the East is...

That said, I predict they lose out in the 2nd Round of the playoffs...
