I'm eating and was curious to see what Kevin Ware looked like (didn't watch the vid), so I went on google image. Big mistake.

I'll be taking a break from bball for a bit and going back to steady jogging for my routine exercise.

Yeah, as much as I love basketball, I'm getting older. (See cell-phone thread.) After a few friends popped their achilles tendons, I said forget it, and I hung up my sneakers.

All that said, people have horrific injuries just stepping out of the shower, so you can't get too paranoid about these things.

I have very weak stomach and whenever someone goes down in a pick up game (even if it's just rolling their ankles) I start cold sweating. I also stopped giving extra effort for rebounds when I saw someone dislocating their shoulder from a rebound attempt way back in the 90's. Some dude also ran into the pole holding the rim on a super fast fastbreak and I think he cracked a rib. Although dude was stupid for doing that, I've been extra careful on fastbreaks ever since. I guess I'm paranoid.

Well I won't be taking a shower for a while either.

i wonder if this injury affects the future of college basketball being hosted in NFL stadiums. we have the 2016 final four coming back to reliant, seems like people are blaming the raised court as afactor for kevin wares break..

I haven't seen many question the floor, although it has been brought up. I really don't see any way that an elevated floor caused this. Freak accidents are freak accidents.

He was holding the rim and running into the pole at the same time? How long were his arms?

I dont see how that would be a factor. Ware turning around plays a bigger part in him missing is landing.

people were claiming that it was only one of the many factors. claims that he made an extra attempt to land and not slide over the edge that increased the amount of strees on his bone..

aside from the injury, they were talking about depth perception being an issue for shooters.

if anything they should make the raised area much, much larger/wider. give room for the entire team to sit at the same elvated level, even some of the floor seating should be at the raised level..

Well, injuries are part of sports. I don't mean to be rude, but perhaps you shouldn't play basketball if you are so afraid of injuries, especially since the ones you mentioned aren't severe at all.
I could understand that if we were talking about major injuries. For instance, my mom fractured her femur while skiing, and I think it's safe to say she'll never go skiing again. But rolling an ankle? Come on.
