Semi-off topic: Read(on the Cougars Rivals or Scout site, dont remember) that Jim Jeffcoat won't be back as D-line coach? And that someone of the backfield leaving to pursue other opportunities?

Sumlin will be back. It's mutually beneficial. Sumlin needs a year to raise his stock. He would be a gamble for a major BCS school. Of course, Auburn gambled with Gene Chizik.

UH wouldn't hire a coach better than Sumlin. Holgersen? Please. Leach? I think Leach has higher aspirations.

Jason Phillips or Tony Levine should get the UH job next IMHO.

I agree, I don't see Sumlin going anywhere this year. I must say, I was unaware that Sumlin had worked under so many big name coaches. Very impressive resume as an Assistant Coach. So, I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to a place he had coached before, like Minnesota. Right now it looks like as long as the Coogs football program is mediocre, then Sumlin stays. But the next time the Coogs end the year in the rankings then he is probably gone. Kinda sad, but probably true.

Yeah Jeffcoat won't be back. He couldn't get his son to come here so no longer a reason to have him here. Plus the defensive line has been pretty bad since he has been here. Terrance Broadway is the guy who is going to transfer. He was the best rated prospect in their 2010 recruiting class and he is leaving. They lost their 2009 best recruit AJ Dugat before the season after he broke some team rules. Good news is Charles Sims is coming back in 2011 and he was a beast freshman in 2009. Alton Demby was ineligible this year as well should also be back. He would have been their best defensive back this year as a true freshman if he was eligible.

Jason Phillips should not be the first choice to get the job if Sumlin leaves. He probably wouldn’t be in my top 5 potential replacements. I was not impressed with the job he did this year as offensive coordinator. I know they were ranked pretty high but those stats are a little misleading. If Sumlin leaves, Mike Haywood should be the first choice. He just won a MAC title at Miami (Ohio). He is a Houston native who coached as Texas, LSU, and Notre Dame. He is a very good recruiter who somehow has gotten kids from Houston to go all the way to Miami (Ohio) to play.

I've heard rumblings that Sumlin has been lobbying for every job under the sun and just wants out of U of H.

Honestly, I can't blame him because alot of the luster has worn off on his star.

As per Dana Holgorsen, I'd be all over that signing as a head coach. I also think he would be inclined to stay a bit longer than Sumlin.

I don't think Sumlin would leave for just any job. He could probably have had the Minnesota job where he used to coach and where his wife is from but he didn’t go after that job. Jobs like Minnesota and Vanderbilt are not good jobs no matter if they are in BCS conferences. I have no doubt Sumlin would leave for a good job but I don’t see that happening this year. If he does leave, I don’t think it’s a big loss. He is 5-9 in his last 14 games coached and some of those wins are versus Texas State, and two of the 10 worst FBS programs like Tulane and Memphis.

Leach with Miami talent would be damn fun to watch.

Rumor is that Jeffcoat has contacted Muschamp about possibly going to Austin.
