He showed a lot of frustration when he went inside the paint and didn't get calls he thought he deserved. But he did look exited for his teammates even with a poor shooting night when they made plays so that's a good sign that he can be happy for the team even not shooting well himself.
I remember seeing this in his first game or two with the Vipers, too. I think it's just his nature at his age. It's also him getting used to the NBA and the refs probably getting used to him. If he can keep that in check, he'll be alright. He's always in the game, cheering on the sidelines, congratulating his teammates, etc., so he's involved in the game. If you watched the cilp of Wall jawing at Danuel House, that was KPJ that stepped up behind House and started saying something to Wall or waving him to stop (?). Not sure what he was saying, to be honest, but he's already taking some kind of leadership there. Usually a young-gun isn't going to get involved unless he's the #1 pick or established. Now I just need him to practice 3's or something. lol. I'm praying he'll be ok and successful.
He's a good athlete but not a freak athlete, so he can't just use outrageous quickness, agility, and strength to bully himself in the paint against NBA athletes, like a young derrick rose, westbrook, or even wall. That's why developing his 3 point shot is going to be so important. When he becomes a legit respected threat from 3, it will force defenders to play him closer on the perimeter and make it easier for him to get to the rim, then he'll be a top tier scorer in the league.
can anyone post this please? https://theathletic.com/2491034/202...ing-but-kevin-porter-jr-is-ahead-of-schedule/
KPj is a month or so away from 21, which means Harden was younger for the entirety of his rookie season ...turning 20 right before training camp. So the age comparison would be Harden after a 6-game playoff series v the champion Lakers, versus KPj before he played one game with the Rockets. just saying
Lets be real microscopic chance MPJ becomes as good as Harden, generational talent and one of the best NBA players in history. But imo he has a good chance of being a multi all star and legit max player. He def has that potential just needs to put it all together.
I've noticed the same thing .... and maybe we are spoiled by watching Harden for the last 8 years but he's not really that fast / quick either , that was more power / deception (get you leaning) than a Kyree quick first step .... Defenders just can't knock Harden off his path to the basket and the way he puts the ball out front of him makes defenders want to reach rather than move their feet .... It took Harden a couple years to develop that too. Porter may need more help in getting to the rim than Harden ..... He should be running a pick and roll with whichever big is on the court pretty much every time down the court unless the opposition is in a zone. That and watching a ton of film of how Harden sets people up to get by them .....
Random thought - why didn’t KP win the g league MVP after leading the league in scoring AND assists and one of the top players in steals ??? ...and his team made the playoffs. that’s ridiculous...
Paul Reed's numbers were just as good if you consider his FG%, 3P%, rebounding, blocks, steals, etc. were all better and his team made it to the Finals. There was only something like a point or two separating the two in scoring. The only thing KPJ had on him easily were the assists. Reed was among the league leaders in almost every major category. Either one of them could've won it, tbh.
When you put it that way...makes sense. ....finals appearance def gave him the edge I think. Leading any league in scoring and assists would usually do the trick.
this tweet lacks context, what are kpj's shooting splits when he scores 20. Harden had a 66% ts his last season in okc. When you are getting compared to harden you have to have the game and advanced stats to match. Not seeing the harden comparison with kpj, the best we can hope for is he becomes another donovan mitchell
