I think KPJ is really being held back by this coaching staff, my fear is that he is similar to Harden with McHale, we really should just bring back MDA and let him turn KPJ into a 30ppg guy.
Its not necessarily what KPJ and Mobley can do that Wood can't, its mainly how a combo of KPJ and Mobley would be incredibly difficult to deal with. First of all Mobley would be an inside anchor, going into that paint means you could very well get blocked or layups contested. Mobley can actually clamp quicker players, he can play 1v1 defense. Wood although a good shot blocker is not the defensive specialist Mobley could be. On offense Mobley could score as well as Wood but with better passing. Mobley could actually find KPJ and if he develops some consistent moves KPJ could be open for some sweet passes. KPJ, will do the same. Two very young studs in one team that as a combo bring offense and defense....
Unpredictability. Porter-Mobley PnR would create crazy gravity - Mobley could lob to Porter and vice versa, depending on match up. Especially deadly with Wood in corner or dunker's spot.
I'd certainly consider it but I don't know why they'd want KPJ when they have Killian Hayes. But maybe they like KPJ better?
Truthfully KPJ is the most important piece to this Rockets puzzle. Even more so than whoever we draft. If he comes back playing any better than he was last season then expect the Rockets to make a little noise.
Dumbtoni just fake boosts pg stats by letting them have 70% of possessions. It leads to scoring titles and boosted stats but isnt really winning basketball and develops bad habits in players. I am also not sure if the pg learns anything as Harden got stuck on stepback 3s and never did anything else. Before Dumbtoni Harden was a PNR virtuoso and led the league in 3 pt assists. After Dumbtoni he had like a couple good seasons and then became in love with Isos after that.
1 of the only things I’ll give McHale credit for is that Harden had a more well rounded offensive game under him than he did under MDA…Harden used all areas of the court and had a healthy mix of ISO, PnR, threes, midrange, postup, and spot ups…he was getting over 50% of his threes assisted
You can track it in the way Capela got marginalized ober the years. As Harden fell more and more in love with his shot, Capela started getting less and less opportunities cuz Harden just wanted to ISO every posession.
In regards to Killian Hayes, don't think Pistons would give up on Hayes yet since he's a 7th pick. But despite what general NBA folks think. He missed lot of games last year (played only 26 games). Of those games, the stats wasn't jumping off the roof. Shooting eFG is .403, this is low, even for a guard. Saben the other rookie on the Pistons squad shot closer to KPJ (but played less minutes) For comparison: DET: Saben Lee (rookie .490), Dennis Smith Jr. (vet .485), Corey Joseph (vet .545) HOU point guards: KPJr (.493), Wall (.458), Augustine (.438) Hayes need more games, but should watch his growth otherwise will be on the Wiseman trajectory. To his other Pistons contemporaries; Saddiq Bey and Isiah Stewart had a more productive year. In terms of production at least right now: kpj > hayes.
Except Harden became historically good under MDA. Every season under MDA, Harden lead league in assists or scoring. And every season, Harden was top 3 MVP candidate.
Capela’s minutes, ppg, and shot attempts increased every year until his final year here where he was injured and we had to incorporate high usage Westbrook How was he getting marginalized? Harden-Capela lob was a staple of the offense
Harden to CC at rim assists by season 2016/2017 : 168 (1st in NBA) 2017/2018 : 193 (1st in NBA) 2018/2019 : 211 (1st in NBA) 2019/2020 : 88 (4th in NBA) CC only played 39 games
LOL Some posters cannot help themselves, they just jump the shark when it comes to D'Antoni, Morey or Harden. I sometimes wonder if its QAnon-like belief in a false narrative or it's purposefully vindictive.
