but in the nba any player can be waived at any time, it's not a punishment. Denver could waive Jokic right now and it wouldn't be a problem as long as he got paid.
I am not telling that as a joke but yeah it is one of the things I do think is bizarre about American sports. No relegation - bad teams get rewarded. Players get waved at will.....
Well people here have said that isn't true they can waive him at any time, however, Woj said this, and it seems to be what the Rockets are doing. I would guess that they technically CAN waive him but that the league has asked them not to, while they investigate - just to cover their own asses DD
Those in charge are slothful as foq. Cannot be any faster. I feel it was yesterday when Dame wanted out and declared Miami as his destination of choice.
No they're not, he's under contract with the Rockets, they can release him from his obligations at any time. It's literally in the contract that they can do this
If the NBA steps in and determines that he can get cut because of the domestic violence rule....can he get waived without needing to pay him? Or does he get paid no matter what?
There is zero evidence that the league has asked the Rockets to keep him on the Roster. There's nothing to cover themselves on. The CBA explicitly says that they can release him. Him being on the roster is the Rockets decision decision, not the leagues. The NBA doesn't tell teams who to keep on their rosters.
Weirder things have happened like the NBA owning the New Orleans Hornets for 1 or 2 years. They vetoed the Gasol trade to Houston? Not suggesting this is happening but what a corrupt league that was in the past.
Imo the rockets don’t want to act hastily and want to make sure they come out on the decent side of what ever financial implications any move has.
The Rockets don't need league approval to waive him. They can waive him anytime they like. The NBA Uniform Players Contract gives them that right. The league doesn't ever stop a team from waiving a player. The league has the right to investigate the accusations against KPJ and punish him if they deem it neccessary. League punishment would take precedence over any punishment from the Rockets. Note: Waiving a player is NOT a punishment. The NBA would not terminate his contract on their own. If the Rockets felt there were grounds to terminate the contract, then they would have to waive him and then petition the league to terminate the contract. If the NBA terminated the contract then the Rockets would owe him nothing. Now realize that the odds of his contract being terminated are are slim. As far as I know, no NBA contract has ever been terminated for any reason other than repeated drug violations. The termination for 3rd strike drug violations was written into the CBA ( this is what happened with Wiggins and Lloyd). Sprewell choked his coach with multiple witnesses and the Warriors tried to terminate his contract and the league suspended him for a year. It went to arbitration and they were not allowed to terminate the contract and his suspension was cut to 6 months. Mire likely his punishment will be more in line with past DV suspensions.
It literally has nothing to do with this..... The league said they are investigating, WOJ said they can't waive him - he has more credibility on this than any of us posting in this thread. Now, he could TECHNICALLY be wrong, but the league and the Rockets are 100% working on this together - and will make sure that whatever they decided the UNION is in on it. I don't care that others think this isn't true.....even though it is a group of multiple teams it is one big organization and on things like this, the League and the Rockets will work the issue together to make SURE they can't be exposed to any lawsuits. I get it....WHat can they sue for...he can be waived at any time - and still have his contract paid.....wait...what was that last part? STILL HAVE HIS CONTRACT paid......hmmmmm mayhaps the Rockets are waiting on that, so they can get out of $$$$ owed. Either way, I concede that the Rockets CAN waive him....I just know they won't work outside the league and it is not just their decision.... You guys keep screaming from the capital steps that the org can waive him until you are out of breath......if it makes you happy....Huff and puff and blow the house down. The ROCKETS won't do anything without the league's approval on this.....mark it down......print it, put it on the fridge...... DD
That was a unique situation. The league had taken over ownership of the Pelicans. They vetoed the CP3 trade in their role as owners of the Pelicans, not in their role of league administrators. It was nothing more than the team owner deciding to not go through with a trade.
I admit but American sports is not trust worthy at all. Who rewards teams for losing......that in itself is blasphemy. It seems like a unique situation but things like this will continue because when you can bend rules like that, more can be done. Nothing really is impossible. But I guess a narrative for another time and another thread.
