Just my two cents -- but I think when he said it was a team that was "really hard for me to coach," he's referring to the team when he started, that it was not good basketball and it was tough for him and he felt the team was so bad they may not win a game.

They didn't have Dalembert then and lost Hayes, so I'm sure he was looking at what he had in the paint and wanted to hide at that point. Still a bit hard to believe considering Adelman was over .500 last year with this team (+ Hayes).

We have people who play in the paint? I didn't see that in the game against Memphis on Monday. Makes me SO ANGRY! Easy layups make me want to vomit in my mouth then out of my nose for amusement.

Clutch- Thanks.... But even his comment about sitting up after the Minny game and wondering why he was doing this.... I guess all coaches do that and Mchale is just the one that blatantly admits it. I just hope he would not up and decide in the next year or so that he doesn't want to see this thing through.

That's what I'm hoping to. I thought he admitted before joining that he was conflicted about whether he really wanted to coach again. If he hits a bad stretch where the team is slumping for a long stretch of games, will he be willing/able to stay the course and lead the team out of it?

I thought the December 9th first practice comment had to do with the fact that everybody was probably out of shape (relatively speaking) and out of rhythm coming back from the lockout perhaps without the usual offseason/training camp routine. Sure the same case (plus Hayes) were +.500 last year, but I doubt they were close to being in the same shape as they finished last year at.

I didn’t like those comments either. He’s getting paid $4M/yr to coach some good, hard-working players. I’m glad he manned up and he's enjoying it now, but feeling like he was in hell or whatever is kinda weak.

You ever see JVG's post-game interviews as a coach?

I see your point and it's a good one... he did say that about the Minny game.

I remember the press conference after the Minnesota game and it was ... man, he was not happy. I think watching his team get eaten alive inside is probably infuriating to a legendary post player like McHale, but throw in that it happened against his old team, that that team had destroyed him 3 times recently and that team is now coached by his predecessor here in Houston, and I'm sure that had to weigh on him.

I'm hoping the "Minnesota game" had a lot of other factors that made that very personal and frustrating... but he did say this is also how he was as a player. He's certainly emotionally invested in coaching.

That was the press conference where he wadded up the box-score sheet and dribbled it with his hand while repeating "they beat us up inside" over and over again, no?

JVG though would agonize over little things even in blowout wins. I remember that game where the Rockets killed the other team and V-Span had 4 or 5 turnovers in garbage minutes. JVG got up and left at the end... was upset about the turnovers.

Yep -- exactly... I got there a little late. I didn't dare ask a question because I didn't know if it had already been asked. On a night like that, couldn't risk it with McHale.

It depends... if we can pick up an elite offensive player who can create their own shot at the trade deadline, that will go a long way. Lowry can do that somewhat but it's hard for him to do everything by himself. I wish we could add a big time PF and pawn Scola off on someone without breaking up the rest of the team. It's hard to see how we can do that though.

Some hater has this as his signature.

What a fake fan, the Rockets are doing much better than anticipated and it's due to McHale's coaching. I use to just envision him as a hated Celtic, but he's won me over as a coach.

We're winning it as a team.

Agreed this is the differnce between the two guys. Was just responding to redhotrox's post and making the point that having a coach sounding and being miserable after a game is not unusual and does not prevent the coach from doing his job well. The emotions of the games does thing to anyone with a true competitive spirit.

Yeah.... I watched the video. Was thinking that if a Rockets player or employee is found dead the next day, McHale probably did it.
