Seriously? All the stuff that goes on on this board and that post is where the mods decide to put their foot down?! There are mods on this board?!
Wishing McHale all the best! Legit Question: I'm just curious about what kind of coach Jerry Sloan would be like for this Rockets team...every time someone brings him up people just groan ( I get it...I hated Utah too) but he is very accomplished and led them to 20+ years of success. I don't know much about him but wonder why he is or isn't a fit for the Rockets, in the hypothetical situation that McHale doesn't come back. Any thoughts?
Pros: Very good at making something out of nothing. Those Jazz teams were pretty terrible on paper after Stockton and Malone. Just utterly bereft of talent. They had guys like Jeff Hornacek and Tyrone Corbin as second and third scoring options. And while they never chipped, they were still very successful. Sloan's system made it so. Cons: - Dude used to babysit FDR. At 70 years of age, it's unclear if the squeaky-voiced Sloan is still cut out for the rigors of NBA coaching. - Cannot handle disparate egos on the roster. Sloan reportedly had a falling out with Deron Williams, who is on the super light end as far as self-centered athletes go. If the Rockets signed a big name star, Sloan would never, ever be able to rein that guy in. He'd be a poor hire, to be frank. The Bobcats didn't even want him.
What makes you think that's all we've done? And is your account still working? No? Then yes, there are mods on this board. Both of you get out of here. Tired of you idiots.
ok thanks for the insight! I think the "making something out of nothing" seems appealing + his playoff appearances success. Also on the con list, he did have superstars in Stockton and Malone and seemed to handle them ok. I buy the age issue might play a factor but Deron Williams may have also just wanted out of Utah--not exactly the most attractive place to play for a lot of these guys. Thanks for the response!
Deron Williams didn't want out of Utah actually. From what I remember he found out he was traded on sports center.
After reading the first page of this thread I skipped right to the end. Some of you guys disgust me. Want the coach fired? That's your right. Think he's horrible? Cool. But to come into a thread about our coach, a member of our ****ing family, having to take a leave of absence for a personal issue and be glad. Gloat. Cheer. You guys are less than worthless. You aren't rockets fans, he'll you aren't human beings. To hell with all of you!
No problem! The thing about Stockton and Malone is that both were really classy, mature guys and were consummate professionals their entire careers. So Sloan was never challenged to manage egos because those guys were always so selfless. Today's modern superstars are a whole other thing, and Sloan really isn't cut out to handle them. Too old school. Assumes these guys don't need diapers any longer, when they kind of still do.
I thought Crhis Jent was suppose to be the man? I never heard of Sampson's named mentioned in Clutchfans until today.
I thought he looked really stressed out in the last game or the game before that when the camera was on him. It kind of make sense now with this news; I hope everything is alright with his family.
