Scott Brooks is a truly mediocre coach, let's not forget that he is the one playing Perkins over Adams and giving old man Fisher major minutes (seriously, when would this guy retire?). It's just that compared to COTY McSuccess, Brooks suddenly appear to be a genius. Incredible adjustments? Shooting threes and blitzing the paint is what the Roxs do, seriously, it's the only ****ing thing they do. Of course, Brooks have Ibaka, Perkins and Adams that can patrol the paint and long, athletic defenders in Durant and Sefolosha that can quickly close in on shooters. But the adjustments in themselves are a no-brainer and it is a testament to Brooks ineptitude that he did not go with that defensive strategy from the start. As for post defense, Brooks should truly struggle to give a **** about Dwight's post game considering that he can't even dominate Perkins, the original Dwight stopper (LMAO).
I agree. OKC just has a gangster shot blocker in Ibaka and Perkins neutralizes DH. They just played with more intensity and better defense. I wouldn't attribute everything to Scott Brooks, but he should receive some credit. McHale gets outcoached on a regular basis. Made Kidd like like Phil Jackson
My theory a while ago was that McHale was hired because he was the only "big name" guy who would agree to do experiments for Morey's analytic schemes. The no-midrange MO, the TT experiments, the starting of a PG who is a good defender with low TO but can't run an offense, etc... All these smell analytic experiments. Adding to that, McHale's penchant of the so-called "riding the hot hand" philosophy, what you get is a seemingly directionless rotation pattern.
Guys make up your minds. He either is or he isn't. In my opinion, McHale isn't a championship contender level head coach. He may be a decent coach on an average team though. I imagine him more as an assistant coach on a contender.
He had a bad stretch of coaching in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but got his s*** together towards the end.
