So, are you suggesting that, despite being capable, McHale is just lazy in most games with no or inappropriate "adjustments"?

Either that, or this was one of the games the players decided to listen to McHale... meaning, they don't always... which, of course, unless you want to trade most of the roster, including if not especially Harden... rests entirely on the coach...

Yea, I hope he keeps it up. Like those adjustments and the late two time outs to set up the final 2 plays with Harden and Lin pnr.

    :p
You don't want to overuse adjustments. Keep switching things around and throwing out too many schemes and guys don't get enough experience to get good at any particular scheme. This isn't a video game, where the players just follow the preset strategy exactly.

Also, the team has made tactical adjustments in many prior games, too. Sometimes they work and you win the game, other times they are not enough to turn things around.

Yeah, that didn't last long. Can't see another choice for primary cause for such an epic collapse other than coaching. Would love to see a video of that halftime pep talk.

How about that perpetual shrug and stammered speech in his halftime interview...?

Agree. Once you find the best rotations and the best schemes you want to stick with those most of the way. The problem is McHale has no sense of what those best schemes and rotations are. I think he is an information overload. Which is why he doesn't want to look at Morey's analytic reports. Too much information for him to handle.

What McHale is best at is motivating players. X's and O's is not his cup of tea and multiple decisions throughout the game is a disaster waiting to happen for him. Why not play DMo long ago. He just needs some minutes and a coach who is behind him a little. Instead he is in the doghouse most of the season. Casspi is a better 3 than 4, why wait so long to get that. And for consistency when did Brooks become a better option than Lin. Rockets up by 10 and then sub Brooks at 4 minute mark and the Rockets lose 10 pt lead and tie game at end of 3rd.

Instead of going back to regular rotation he keeps Lin out and rolls with Brooks until 4 minute mark and Rockets losing by 8. Why McHale? Why make this change in the rotation at his point. That's an 18 point swing just because McHale wanted to try something different. Yeah it was all because of that and Lin didn't do much when he came back in but this all points erratic decisions by the coach. If you are losing by 15 in the 4rth and nothing is working trying something else. Rudy T always had a philosophy keep repeating what works until they stop it. McHale's philosophy is keep repeating what I think works even though it stops working.

You are blinded by your arrogance. You try too hard to be a smartass and it's pathetic. "Oh, what I said was logical.. Blah blah blah" get your head out of your ass dude. I love the Rockets. Root for them no matter what. But you just come off as stupid. Just because something is logical doesn't mean it is right and most of what you say is fallacious. I hate people like you. You think you're so smart but you're a jackass. No one is saying they don't have faith in this team but you think our team's **** smells like roses and it's pathetic.

McHale preaches read and react. For last night's game vs Thunders, I wonder what he was reading so he's not reacting to Rox not scoring in the second half. Analysis paralysis maybe.

54-pt differential between first and second half. A really honorable record for any coach in NBA.

I don't see a lot of evidence that he's particularly great at that.

He hasn't been able to motivate Harden to play defense or be more accountable. He hasn't been able to motivate Dwight to play more PnR rather than demanding post ups.
He hasn't been able to motivate the team to play a sharing the ball style rather than ISO.
He hasn't been able to motivate Lin to be more aggressive and not go into his shell.
He hasn't been able to motivate the team to fight back with heart rather than capitulate like they did last night.

Exactly. It's the opposite. We sleep on mediocre teams routinely.

Great Post Rock!.....This is exactly the issue. I think McHale was needed to bring the names in (Howard) from free agency, but now what do we do? This team needs to be coached....discipline...direction...Identity. We are half way through the season and we STILL do not know who we are. We are STILL talking about why players aren't deferring to Howard. How is that possible? This has to drive Morey crazy in my opinion. He brings talent here; gives the coaching staff mounts of analysis that will actually work and McHale is working off his "gut instincts" Basketball is more than a "feel" you have to know what works....why it works....and when it stops working....adjust to make it work again. This season will end early (1st or 2nd round) if they don't figure this out. The Spurs make it look so easy with less talent and older players because the players and Pops " know what works....why it works....and when it stops working....adjust to make it work again."

Scottie Brooks proved to the NBA community last night that he IS a damn good coach. Regardless of our shot-making abilities, he made some incredible adjustments.

<3 agree 100%. Seems like he makes changes based on eye test and how he 'feels' rather than using stats to at least support his changes.
