I don't think they're so naïve that they don't realize the GOP could nominate and vote in someone further right. In fact, they might be counting on it. It makes the GOP look just as unhinged as they are and can quickly flip in-play districts back to the left. Having the protection of a Dem led Senate and White House means idiotic legislation gets nowhere and focuses the dysfunction on the House and whomever is it's leader.

The arsonists are exactly the same people that the Republicans courted in chasing Donald Trump in 2016, and which everybody remotely sane told them was playing with fire.

Lie down with pigs, wake up covered in mud and ****.

There's a great deal of schadenfreude in watching the tower that the "mainstream" Republicans pretended to kick over in 2016 in search of power actually wobble back-and-forth a bit before falling right back on top of the people pretending to do the toppling.

You reap what you sow. This is a direct result of the strategy they pursued in 2016.

Thank you for taking the time to explain it.

In other words, MacCarthy was an arrogant fool, who like all politicians, played FAFO. Instead of like most politicians who **** around with their constituents, he was playing around with his own peers. The Republicans used him like chopped liver in spite of MAGA. He learned a little too late what compromise means.

It just shows these debt ceiling bills are nothing more than theatric. Its fine to use it as political fodder but the bill will pass. FAFO MAGA

“You know chaos? Chaos is buying and keeping hot illegal Latina teenagers as slaves in your garage while being elected to the House of Representatives. Chaos is boning said teenage slaves in your living room while watching King of the Hill and snorting heroin off your bodies chest hair. Chaos - you don’t know chaos!”

Although Dems aren’t to blame for this chaos, they have a moral obligation to strive for the best outcome for America, and — based on the likely alternatives — Speaker McCarthy is probably as good as it gets.

    -mindset of some conservatives

Cleaning after Republicans gets us no where, I rather we watch them crash and Burn so folks can vote accordingly. If democrats saves him once, the maga are gonna keep pushing to get rid of Mccarthy later down the road anyways.

meanwhile, his niece, the RNC Chair says this

‘I don’t know how this infighting helps us beat Joe Biden’

“Anytime we’re fighting with each other, we’re taking away from our message against Joe Biden.
We’re about a year out from a critical election where we have a great Senate map, we’ve got to
hold the House, and we can win the White House,” she said. “And the headlines today are
about Republican Party infighting. It is not good.”

Rep. Nancy Pelosi was ordered to vacate her offices in the House by interim-Speaker Patrick McHenry. It was one of McHenry's first acts since taking over for Kevin McCarthy. Pelosi criticized it as a break from tradition.

upon further investigation, it has been confirmed by several sources that

Kevin McCarthy was behind interim Speaker Patrick McHenry’s move to kick former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Majority Leader Steny Hoyer out of their office spaces,

I am in Pelosi's district. I have voted in many, many elections, and I have watched Pelosi. I have voted against her on occasion.

But poking her unnecessarily is the ultimate FAFO move from these idiots. Don't f with Nancy. SMDH.

If the GOP is so concerned about these issues, why didn't they address them when they held all branches of gov't?

I'm glad to see Gaetz has come to his senses and won't be supporting Trump for President or any future tax cuts while we are still operating at a deficit.

Democrats propping up a Republican speaker is bound for failure. As many Democratic votes needed to keep the speaker will
Likely lead to more Republican votes lost.

If only you guys were serious about reducing the deficit. Trump's tax cuts were suppose to help us long term to reduce the deficit, and in fact turn into a surplus to pay down debt. Of course, they didn't do that because trickle down economics is a bullshit concept if you are enriching huge corporations.

I'm sure both parties could reduce spending if both were serious about putting things on the table and compromising.

@Commodore I'm glad you enjoy posting some lame speech that we all know is all talk but no actual action.

Not only that, but could you imagine how weak McCarthy would become in his own conference if Dems had to hold him up as speaker? The right would crucify him endlessly as a liberal stool pigeon.

I get why the Dems didn't help him - the couldn't trust him. They should have made it clear that the only way they could back him as speaker is if he included Ukraine funding in the CR.

FAFO is the McCarthy strategy when it comes to moving legislation through Congress. McCarthy and his team will do their best to lie to and insult Democrats will simultaneously begging for their votes on must pass legislation (or in this case keeping McCarthy as speaker).

The day before Gaetz brings up the motion to vacate, McCarthy goes onto Face the Nation and has the audacity to blame Democrats for the shutdown while he breaks previous agreements with Democrats from the debt ceiling deal. Nancy Mace apparently voted him out because he told her he'd remove the Mifepristone ban from the Agriculture bill (and then he ignored her and left in anyway). And shocking no one, the Ag bill failed because Republicans in Biden districts didn't want to vote to ban Mifepristone.

McCarthy might be the worst and clumsiest speaker in modern history. He routinely lied to everyone in Congress and was so useless that the Senate basically started ignoring him entirely. During the debt ceiling and spending bill debates, Senate Republicans basically laughed him off and openly announced that they'd support clean extensions of both the debt ceiling and spending bill. No one in the Senate viewed McCarthy as a serious person and yet he continued to mess around until he got the boot.
