The GOP is a mess, this is what happens when you have no integrity and honor, you fail to deal with those in your party who lack those things, and as such you get a mess.

When you hang out with pigs, you are gonna get muddy.

It’s Donald Trump in the end running the House. Has been since McCarthy went down to Mar A Lago to bend the knee and he became more powerful when McCarthy gave Geatz his power which was essentially Trump getting that power.

Same will be the case with Gym Jordan who is going to just take orders from Trump and yell about Democrats all day long. At least with Gym Jordan Democrats and the White House know exactly who they are dealing with.

Yesterday was inevitable and a government shut down that’ll wreck the economy soon is also inevitable. American voters chose wrong in 2022 and we’ll pay the price as a country for voters continuing to vote for those literally trying to destroy the country that we know.

MAGA House Republicans will seek additional concessions beyond what they got from McCarthy. This could potentially open the door for bipartisan negotiations. While unlikely, there appear to be two broad options: electing a Speaker aligned with MAGA or a more moderate Republican chosen with some Democratic support. The latter may have slightly better odds, given that many Republicans will be at risk of losing their seats if the MAGA aggressive agenda becomes the speaker's agenda.

But really, maybe a 53 to 47 odd lol.

Why would they elect to keep Kevin as speaker when he went back on his word regarding negotiations he had with the white house regarding budget negotiations?

It's like asking would u ever vote for Pelosi to remain in power as speaker if there was a vote to fire her.

Democrats have no reason not to get rid of Mccarthy. Man was unwilling to compromise so he shouldn't expect a bail out from the democrats. At least the next speaker wouldn't b blackmail of this by the MAGA

No Kev, you knew it was wrong and you could have cut bait with trump, yet your thirst for power sent you to Fl to kiss the ass of your cult leader days after most told the truth and then scurried like rats when they realized they could downplay what happened. For a second, I felt sorry for you but FU. I would not mind the Dems working across the aisle to get a reasonable speaker if the maga folks decide the nominee is not sleazy enough for them. The maga crew doesn't care about the American public, they care about one man, and they will do everything they can to create as much chaos over the next year as possible. When will the maga nuts figure out that trump's loyalty runs one way, his way or the highway. trump has gone off the hinges the past few days at his trial and they want that bozo to be the leader of the free world

How do Republicans get out of this mess? Seems the only possibility is to give in to MAGA and appoint one of the crazies like Jim Jordan who represents Russia's interests. I can't imagine that is good for the GOP holding onto the House.

I am no fan of Pelosi. She isn't awesome but she isn't the worst choice. If some hard core nut job like AOC worked up a coup to throw her out, I absolutely not work with her unless there was a strong chance to get someone in better. I would not throw Pelosi out for some petty meaningless victory. That is just stupid.

It doesn't sound like the Democrats are going to get someone better than MacCarthy. Maybe they will and in that case, it makes sense.

I don't think they are doing it to win anything, in fact, I think they are just doing it because Kevin was not willing to listen to them and then he went back on his promise to the White House. Why the hell save him if that's the path he chose? He wants to alienate democrats, then so be it. Perhaps this is a gamble from democrats that they may have a small voice on the next Speaker, maybe. Unless republicans give in and decide to elect someone really far right.

And it was a dumb move for kev to go on the talk circuit on Sunday and call the democrats out after they agreed to work with him and even took out Ukraine funding and kev said he would push that at a later time so the dems did help avoid the shutdown and then kev went on face the nation and spun it to make them look bad.................they could not trust him at the end of the day. the gop is going to have a hard time getting the votes with the 8 knuckleheads, I will not be shocked if they have another marathon vote even though they know the country is watching them implode. Gym is maga, the dude has no moral compass and tells lies almost as fast as Gaetz..........I hope the majority ice those 8 out but who am I kidding, they dont have the balls to do anything on their own and they will follow the maga sheep, there to afraid to be called a rino

Here's the thing. McCarthy didn't intend for the CR to pass. Everyone is giving him credit for having the "courage" to defy the far right of his caucus and bring up a CR.

However, the timeline of events do not support this.

    1. He tried bringing up individual appropriation bills. He couldn't even get the easiest one (the defense bill) through the rules committee. Other bills like the Agriculture bill failed as well (because the far right inserted poison pills into the bill). He was bringing up versions of appropriations bills that couldn't even make it through his own caucus.

    2. Then he tries to bring up a single CR that has huge budget cuts. That one fails again. So at this point, everyone in both parties thinks we're heading to a shutdown. But its clear that everyone is blaming the Republicans for the shutdown since they have failed so publicly to pass any sort of bill (while the leadership of both parties in the Senate said they'll pass a full CR)

    3. So McCarthy comes up with an extremely clumsy strategy. He brings up a full CR but leaves out Ukraine aid. He's hoping that Dems won't vote for a bill that leaves out Ukraine aid so he wants Dems and the far right to vote down the bill so that he can claim that its the Democrats shut down the government

    4. However, the Democrats don't fall for it and vote to pass the bill and McCarthy promptly gets removed as speaker. McCarthy never wanted this thing to pass, he just wanted to find a way to blame the Democrats (but they failed to take the bait). And his hope was that if the Dems took the bait, he could go back to the far right and brag about his big brain strategic play.

McCarthy isn't the "best option" for Democrats. He's a clown who can't muster the requisite votes for virtually any legislation but he also refuses to be an honest negotiator with Democrats. Remember, he had struck a deal with Democrats around funding levels when the debt ceiling was extended only to break that deal and start pushing appropriations bills and CRs that weren't even close to the debt ceiling framework.

Instead, he's an extremely clumsy negotiator who managed to anger everyone (outside of the committee chairs and House caucus leadership who back him). He's the political equivalent of Mac from Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia who constantly tries to double cross everyone and then ends up looking like a moron that everyone hates.

There is a very simple reason that Trump will not be the next Speaker. The job requires work, which is not in the cards for a man who wants to roll into work at noon and spend most of his day watching tube.
