They wanted more of an obstructionist Obama McConnell than the one who got snookered into passing the infra bill right before the IRA.

Meanwhile... it has to be humiliating to be mccarthy... he tried so hard to get the speaker position. Though he appears to have no self respect...

If he resigns, does Newsom get to appoint his temporary replacement?

God forbid McConnell helps getting something passed that Trump kept on having "weeks" about.

I love how it's the Democrats responsiblity to save the country from REpublican disfunction.

Howabout this for an idea. Next election get the Democrats a majority and then they will save the country from Republican dysfunction.

McCarthy was 1-vote away from getting booted. It wouldn't surprise me if M. Bloomberg already penned the op/ed blame this on the Dems when it finally happened.

By keeping McCarthy alive, you get all the worst of McCarthy and none of the best of "bipartisanship".

Americans already hate how the economy is being handled. A shakeup from a possible shutdown would serve useful for the Dems, if only to point out that they really are trying to govern without gimmicks.

Bloomberg does not understand how these insurrectionist MAGA voters think, and they're expanding as long as the middle class shrinks and billionaires like Bloomberg exploit the government for their own whims and means.

Which is exactly why they're fine siting back and watching the GOP burn to the ground. The House Dems were under absolutely no obligation to help McCarthy...especially with how he went back on his word so many times. They know that the next fire breathing moron that gets elected to Speaker will likely suffer the same fate...all while their ultra maga plans go up in flames because absolutely none of it will get through the Dem-led Senate. All of those districts that are in play are watching closely and see what happens when you allow the idiots to run the asylum.

So the argument is that democrats should have saved McCarthy despite him going back on deals he had agreed with democrats? (i.e. negotiation with WH regarding funding).

Democrats should help a guy that negotiated with them in bad faith? Lets ignore that he badmouth them on television after current deal passed.

I mean, if I'm Republicans I try and blame it on Dems too. Where's the downside for them when truth isn't intrinsicaly valuable?

The type of people who will buy it already feel deep down inside that the Dems must somehow be at fault. A good grifter tells the marks exactly what they want to hear.

Everybody else is already too cynical to be shocked. Literally no downside because everybody not fooled already understands exactly who the accusers are.

You could tell the base that the sky was purple and they would buy it hook, line and sinker so your right, there is no downside..........I still don't get the jedi mind tricks on the maga base but I stopped trying to figure them out

With things like the debt ceiling and the CR Republican does dysfunction does affect all of us. That doesn't mean that the Democrats should've saved McCarthy. If 10 Democrats voted for McCarthy or just present. That likely means several more Republicans defect from him. So then should 20 - 30 Democrats vote for him? Either McCarthy becomes completely dependent on Democrats and loses the trust of his own caucus or Democrats have kept in power who they can't trust at all.

Unless the Republicans won't to surrender the majority it's very unlikely the Democrats could save McCarthy.

Trump's hold on that party is pathological.

For 8 years he led them down a path of conspiracy theories, lies, and hateful rhetoric. They took a bended knee, and pledged loyalty to the GOP’s orange god, and maintained that stance even after the insurrection. It's sickening.

McCarthy, and many other Republicans over the past eight years, realised that their willingness to support Trump and the extremist forces within the party that have rallied around him were the only way not to get ousted and blackballed. Ted Cruz did such an about face after Trump won the election that it was a prime example of pure ass kissing at its finest. McCarthy made his deal with the devil, only to be burned by the political forces he’d empowered. He, and the other less right wing Republicans should have seen it coming. Their stupidity and cowardly behavior is pathetic.
