His efficiency to me is overrated, all his points basically come from free throws, and selective shots within the offense, it's not like he's scoring off pull up jumpers in one on one situations or finishing over defense's at the rim like most star players, he has to run off screens or drive directly into his defender drawing contact which is easier to adjust to come playoff time especially since refs tend to swallow their whistle.
Like when Yao is setting up in the post late in the 4th quarter?? You think teams are going to be worrying about Martin running around when Brooks/Battier are feeding Yao in the post late?? I think they will focus their D on Yao, and that will give Martin the lanes and open looks he needs. That overrated efficiency means Yao is still the focus of the offense and all of a sudden Martin has dropped 30 points. Great job there defense, you made Yao earn his 14 points, but Martin gashed you for 35 and you still lost by 10.
I liked what I saw from him defensively. He's not elite by any means, but he's fighting through screens, rotating quickly, and being generally sound. Sure, people get by him, and he's not blocking any shots, but the effort is there this season. Not every player can be a lockdown defender.
No question Martin is one of the more valuable assets in the league and he is the perfect compliment to Yao. That being said, we still lack a go to guy that can create his shot in the clutch because while Martin can fill the boxscore throughout the game he struggles late in the shot clot in one on one situations.
ef·fi·cien·cy /ɪˈfɪʃənsi/ Show Spelled[ih-fish-uhn-see] Show IPA –noun,plural-cies. 1.the state or quality of being efficient; competency in performance. 2.accomplishment of or ability to accomplish a job with a minimum expenditure of time and effort: The assembly line increased industry's efficiency. I think the problem is some fans don't understand what being efficient means. It doesnt mean carrying a team. It doesn't mean being the best NBA player. It doesnt mean being a one on one player. It doesn't mean being Iverson or Kobe.
lolwut. Hell, I think he's awesome for starters. Obviously it's preseason, but wasn't Jordan's TS at about 60%? That is ridiculous.
well durant gets most of his pionts from the line and your point? isnt he a super star? im not comparing...just stating
Again Martin isn't here to be Kobe. He's here to score efficiently. Teams only get certain attempts a game since the game itself is only 4 quarters. What you want to get are players who make the most of those attempts, that's Kevin Martin. I don't see why most of are complaining he takes too few attempts, that's the whole point. If you can score 25 points on less attempts it makes you efficient. He's not here to make that last shot when behind by 2 points and the time expiring. If everyone on our roster was as efficient as KM we'll be blowing out teams by 4rth quarter anyway.

Complaining about selective shots is only valid when a player is not scoring high enough. You can't complain about selective shots against someone scoring more than 20 per game. It doesn't make sense.
Yeah, and Reggie is one of about 5-6 guards in all of history with higher efficiency than KevMart. But the big key for us is that he is not our franchise player like Reggie was for Indiana. He doesn't have to carry this team, and he's not going to be the focal point of the defense at all times. Because of that, we don't need him to ever have a record-breaking insane night like Reggie did that game (although he obviously will sometimes have them). All we need is silent, efficient, well chosen 20-25 points per game, and he's going to put us over the top well before the first quarter.
Kevin Martin, Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola, Shane Battier, and Yao Ming. That is one MFing stout starting lineup. GO ROX ! DD
