Meaning if he hits a higher FG% then he scores more? Yeah, I got that.

This is clearly ignoring the fact that his FG% is about the same as his career average and his FTA is way below last season's. Doesn't take a detailed statistical analysis to figure out where all the points have gone.

That might be true. I can't say for certain now. If it is true, it actually almost speaks to a better offense. If we're getting our SG, historically a solid and efficient scorer from long range, more open looks, and he's just missing them, then can't fault McHale's offense too much.

Sure, it may not be 100% Martin's game, in the sense that he needs some of that contact and FT attempts to get comfortable, but if a guy is getting a lot of open looks, he needs to hit them.

But again, I'm not sure what the deal is. Statistical analysis aside, my guess is that it's a combination of (1) not getting the same calls, (2) not being comfortable in McHale's offense yet, despite the fact that as you've noted he is getting open looks, and (3) not being as aggressive with regards to his drives, etc.

You're right, your analysis isn't detailed at all, that's why it's wrong and I corrected it in my last post.

He isn't trying as hard to draw fouls and is trying to make contested shots more often, that's why his FG% is basically the same despite everyone including himself stating that his shot "looks weird" and him misssing so many open jumpers. In previous years you'd see him take more bad shots due to trying to get foul calls.

So all in all, this slow start is just a matter of his shot being off.

It's early but the loss of the chuckwagon can't be overlooked. The guy ran the high post to perfection and Kevin benefitted from it the most.

You can see Kevin making the cuts but Scola or whoever is handling the
ball won't make the pass. Martin is just not effective on a PnR.

Oh, alright. Detailed means correct, I forgot. Must have left my logic at home.

He's just avoiding one of the aspects of his game that made it so efficient (read: drawing fouls). No biggie, guys. Let's just hope that his FG% dramatically improves despite the fact that he's shot 43% over his career. He's taking what another poster has deemed "more efficient" shots, like long two pointers and fadeaway bank shots off the dribble. Awesome!

It's really a matter of him getting to the line. His most productive years were when he was getting to the line 9-10 times a game. As other knowledgeable posters have iterated, he needs to start drawing those fouls. Gets him in a rhythm and gets the other team in foul trouble.

Interesting point about the lack of a passing big man. Martin is certainly at his best when he can catch the ball and his defender is scrambling to catch up to him, like when he gets it off a cut. He's quite underwhelming when the defender is actually set up.

Martin is garbage. With the league cracking down on fouls Martins numbers will continue to stay down

That's kind of what I meant. I think if Chuck was still here there would be more of it. The curl thru the paint for Kevin was so good we used when we needed a basket at the end of games last year.

The baseline back cut is what I'm seeing Kevin still do but without Chuck pulling the trigger the pass never happens. My biggest frustration has been how we've become a jump shooting team and lost the ability to get easy buckets inside.
On a side note I think this is one of the reasons Bud is struggling also.

Its 9 games into season. Remember the man had a legit shot at most 3 pointers and free throws made in the same season. He's a proven scorer. Martin isn't someone to worry about.

    Kevin Martin is a bum

Its like everytime he drives the lane, he is looking for free-throws rather than trying to make the shot

    What a wussy

    He's not a winner.

Less Martin in crunch time. More Parsons.

Y'all are r****ded. Martin isn't a clutch player that you give the ball to in clutch situation. He's not Kobe, lebron, or Wade... He's a scorer and that's what he does.
