Morey moved every contract worth more than $5.8 million with the deal to bring in Pau Gasol, then he would have signed that defensive minded center in Nene you were longing for to a max deal giving him multiple years to develop Thabeet. So what are you saying?

He was brought in to give more preparation to the defensive end and he is ultimately going to be held accountable as the season goes on. However, its no reason to give him the pink slip anytime soon.

My point is he had the right idea to go small, but the team didnt execute that process well enough to actually win the game. Playing small ball (Adelman style) has a way of punishing teams who are big by running them up and down the court with a fast pace offense to get easy buckets a wear down the bigs.

McHale went small, and for a bit it worked, but he didnt have them push the tempo enough to really effect the game enough to have a chance at winning.

I still think going with McHale was the right move to make, but games like last night really make you appreciate what Adelman was able to do to get wins on a nightly basis on offense. In the longrun though, I think they will still end up with a similar win/loss record despite being overmatched 8 to 10 games a year that are nearly impossible to win under McHale.

    F#@# you STERN!! That's what I'm saying.

No, seriously. I'm just disappointed with the turn of events that transpired up this point. D. Morey should do something - overpay for a center or S&T for a proven defensive center in the league.

With all due respect to the OP, you are crazy if you think Luis Scola is soft. What absolute bull****. The man is a warrior. Is he as good a defender as we would prefer at his spot? No, he is not, but he works hard, he kept us in the Lakers game, and he is anything but soft.

Typical post-loss knee-jerk thread. In other words, stupid.

Agreed. He does suck on defense, but the term "soft"..... yeah thats ridiculous.

Very well reasoned post; I think your analysis of why the small rotation didn't work is spot on.

I think I agree with trying going small at times, but I can't emphasize enough how much I dislike Scola as a center. Ok rebounder, but certainly not good enough to warrant being our in-the-paint shot blocker, and he's only meh with defense. He's a really good PF that needs to stay at that position, IMHO.

Making small moves stops the potential for the big move.

I personally was on the record for an amnesty to Martin, retain Lin and sign Dalembert preseason and go into the next year with Dalembert's expiring and $19 mil in cap room and 66 games worth of tape on your young assets, not to mention 3 or 4 draft picks.

That being said, don't blame Morey.

Give McHale 3 weeks to get some team defense and as long as he keeps Scola away from the 5 this is still a playoff team with a lot of cap flexibility. It shouldn't be hard for us to make a good signing next off-season and if Les Alexander just goes and plays golf with Adidas reps, we could have Dwight Howard in a S&T.

You lost all credibility when you called Luis Scola "soft."
