Arenas, McGrady, O'neal all received this award and then went on to be some of the top players in the league at their respective position the following years but then all suffered cripping injuries that stopped all their careers shorter than what should have been

    its still a curse

Well I guess if you look at it that way.

But I think confirmation bias plays into factor here. Injuries are a huge reason to a lot of players' drop off. A huge number of players' in this league went from great to just alright in a matter of seasons after an injury. Yao Ming is a great example of that.

McGrady had back problems right from the beginning. I think once he took on the role as the primary option, he also took on more stress on his back and body. That may have factored in the breakdown of his body.

Tmac won the award in 2001, he really went out of commission in 2008.

He better take caution when playing the Spurs in the future or Ginobli might break his ankles. Ginobli hates MIP's.

    How is Russell Westbrook 7th?

Westbrook improved his 3 point shooting by over 10%. Every category of his game has improved besides rebounding.

Lowry is underrated enough, but Derrick Rose's MVP season is really dogging all other PGs.

injuries do happen to everyone and its really just luck of the draw (though in Yao's case it was somewhat predictable given his size)

But with O'neal, McGrady and Arenas they all suffered injuries that reduced them to a shell of a player they once were. Many times injuries hurt that person for a year but then they recover back (like Wade when he got hurt, never was 100% 2 seasons ago but was last year and back playing at MVP level) It wasnt that they got injured, but they got injured and then kept staying injured.

thats when he finally dropped so low he couldnt do anything but he started having injury issues with his back right after during the playoffs with orlando and continuously was injured outside of the 04-05 season (when he still had back spasms in the playoffs) during his tenure with the Rockets. If anything it speaks to the supreme talent he had which allowed him to still play at a high level despite those injuries.

The MIP curse is probably just a reflection of the fact that when a player has an MIP-type season, it may simply be a statistical anomaly where, for whatever reason, a player plays much better than his skill level would otherwise predict. Coaches might say "wow, player X's numbers this year are a major improvement over previous years" and mistakenly think it's a sign of a long-term improvement in play.

Rose should of won it. Love has the worst record of any player to win the award.
