Would it be possible if he were to insist on coming to the Rockets on a 1 year deal on the grounds that we would resign him next year on a very lucrative long term deal next year, that he could get a decent 1 year contract from another team in a sign and trade scenario where we send to that team the likes of Jones, Papa, Motiejunas, and 18th picks or some combination of players? They get a series of very good players just for making the deal happen so it's a win for whoever is willing to do the deal. BimaThug, thoughts? If we could get Smith and Brewer on the 1 year deal with 2016 payback, Llull on MLE and Terry on a 1 year vet min deal we are almost guaranteed a Championship. Roster: PG - Llull / 23rd / Terry SG - Harden / Brewer SF - Ariza / Brewer PF - Love / Smith ..C - Howard / Capela This possible financially?
Yuck to kevin love. He really doesn't play defence and him with Harden would give us two glaring holes on the defensive end that we'd have to make up for. Just No. DMO is our PF with Hosh Smith as our back up pf. What we need is a legit back up Center that can see some minutes when Dwight takes a rest. Let's focus on our backcourt/wings first. A pg that isn't a liability on the defensive end and can help be a facilitator and scorer.
Would actually be great, more years of mediocrity and overpaying aging and injury-prone stars. That way they won't achieve anything in the next years and don't get their hands on any prospect.
Anybody who wants Love above Aldridge is losing their mind. Aldridge is way more talented and can fit into our system as much as Love. Aldridge's money long 2 is just as floor stretching as Kevin Love's 3. Kevin Love can't provide an air tight seal on the paint quite like Aldridge would if you compare them next to Dwight. Aldridge is more expensive but easily the better player. I've always been on the stat padding train when it comes to Love. I like Love. I honestly just don't think he's worth an all-in type move like Aldridge would be
There IS a way to get Love without trading Ariza, but it's not easy. His new max salary will be around $18.8, which means we have to get to $13.8 in salary to complete a SnT. Here's how: 4.8 - Papanikolaou 1.7 - Prigioni 2.5 - TJones 2.3 - DMo 1.3 - #18 pick, traded 30 days after signing 1.0 - Dorsey 0.8 - Nick Johnson 14.4 Total At first glance, a 7 for 1 trade seems very unlikely, but consider that in the offseason teams can have up to 20 players on their rosters, and this would also likely be a 3 way trade. The Cavs can choose what they want to keep (Papa NG, DMo, etc) and forward the rest to another team for a different asset they want. The wolves did something similar by forwarding the Miami #1 pick to the 76ers in return for Thad Young in the Love-Wiggins deal. Is it unlikely? Yes.....but it can be done.
