actually a great idea. But i don't know if the cavs would pull the trigger. Irving/ Shumpert/waiters LBJ/Marion Anderson/Thompson Asik/Mosgov That lineup looks balanced.
Asik comes off the books and you have the ability to resign him if things work out. I am utterly shocked that this team sucks as bad as it does. It really is surprising to me. I thought at worst you were going to get a team that would slaughter teams offensively. They can't get stops, and they aren't scoring efficiently.
If your strategy is to bench players like Gasol or Love then you're a ****dick head coach. Simple as that to me.
Completely agree with this. Love needs to have the ball in his hands more to be effective. He is not just a spot up shooter.....he's a multi-dimensional offensive weapon. Cleveland is giving all of the playmaking to Lebron, Irving, and now JR Smith (LOL). On the Rockets, Love would be the 2nd playmaker on the court behind Harden, and that's PERFECT for what the Rockets need. Suddenly Beverley and Ariza won't be offensive liabilities anymore, as they would be in the roles they were meant for. Defensively, there is NO REASON why he can't be an above average defender. NO REASON. If DMo could do it, then so can Love. Get him with McHale and I guarantee he will improve. Also, we have the perfect situation for him. He would have 2 ELITE defenders on either side of him (Ariza and Dwight), plus a backup big (Smith) that could protect the rim when Dwight sits. I think we would see a transformation defensively from Love in the same vein as what we've seen from Harden this year. I'm building a mini-conspiracy theory around the McHale extension, Brewer trade and Shved trade. I'm not saying that the entire reason we made these moves had to do with Love......only that they could have been done with him in mind. 1) McHale drafted and coached Love and Brewer 2) Brewer was Love's "wide receiver" in the fastbreak at Minnesota 3) Shved played with Love Again.....not saying that's all there is to these trades. I just keep seeing all the coincidences and wondering "what if?" Our players (and McHale....with Minnesota's permission) had been recruiting Brewer for at least a month before we traded for him. What if Brewer, Shved and McHale are doing that for us now with Love?
I think they guy's a loser. Some pretty strong reports that he's whining about not getting the ball enough (all year long...) sounds like it would be the death kneel to the Howard/Harden era as we are already placating Howard enough with these post touches and now will have another guy to worry about getting touches. D-Mo knows his role and plays well within that role. We need more guys like that.
Love is so over rated and I believe the people that are so in LOVE with love never watched him just his box scores.
DMo is long and incredibly mobile for a 7 footer, in the mold of Chris Bosh. Love is actually around Terrence Jones' height, with shorter reach and much less mobility. Harden was a very good one on one defender in OKC and regressed when he had to carry the scoring load in Houston. Love has always been a bad defender. Hoping he'll transform defensively is like hoping Scola or Landry would transform defensively. It's very unlikely and you just have to live with the flaws. For the record, I still think Love would be an amazing acquisition for us if we could get him. We'd have to hide him on defense like Chicago did with Boozer, but the floor would be open for all three of our stars.
As the other poster pointed out....Your insistence that love can be an above average defender because DMo is one couldn't be more off base. You should re-think that logic. Besides that i don't see Love as a creator. He can't create for himself or others. He's not a post player and he's not going to beat smaller players off the dribble. Yes he's a good passer but that's not enough to confuse him as a creator.
DMo is 7', but he is not "long". His wingspan is small relative to his size. Love, OTOH, is 2-3 inches shorter than DMo, but has a longer wingspan relative to his body (6'11). Their standing reaches are within an inch or two, and neither have great leaping ability. Regarding mobility, Love has been praised for his footwork, especially on the boards. There's no reason that same ability can't be applied in other facets of the game. Comparing Harden in OKC and Love in Minnesota is not fair. Two completely different circumstances. Adding to my conspiracy above.......in an interview with ESPN following the Cleveland trade, Harden referred to Love as "a good friend of mine", and later on, "a great friend". We made Howard happy by signing Smith......it's time to make Harden happy by trading for his "great friend".
I don't see how that is off base. DMo was not considered a great defender coming into the league. He's learned to use his feat, size, and BBIQ to become a good defender. There is no reason Love can't do the same. This is not a physical/mental limitation issue, it's a coaching/scheming/personnel/focus problem. The better example is Harden. He lacked focus last year as a defender, but he and the Rockets were able to get it turned around by improving his focus, adding Ariza, and scheming to his strengths. The same would happen here in Houston. We would have Love surrounded by good defenders, and offer an environment that emphasizes defense. He has not had that in either Minnesota or Cleveland. Look at Josh Smith. Everyone (myself included) was concerned that he wouldn't fit....that he was simply an athletic freak with nothing upstairs. We were dead wrong.......he just needed to be put in a position to succeed. The same is and will be true of Love. Someone once asked Morey if he was gunning for a 3 stars (or something along those lines). His answer was "why just 3?" Harden. Howard. Love. Smith.
DMo has great lateral quickness for a 7fter. That's why he's one of the best PnR defenders in the NBA when it comes to hedging on the ball handler to disrupt his path. Love has poor lateral quickness.
I heard that he would help us alot. I haven't seen a successful stretch 4 that people here rave about
I know Love can be a very effective offensive player but defensively i don't see how he can ever be more than average. Right now he's very much below average. He can't defend the hoop and his lateral quickness exposes him on the perimeter. You're basically left with trying to hide his defense when he's on the court.
Didn't answer this portion. Love is a post player in the same way Diaw is a post player....it is within both players skillset, but not the focal point of their offense. Love has a very diversified set of offensive skills: Pick and pop Pick and roll post up put backs distribute outlet passing Here's some of his post skills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4lEqq7CtKc If you consider Diaw to be a creator (I do), then certainly Love is as well.
