    He does not deserve max.
Players that cannot Iso don't deserve max.

Good thing Khan didn't pay him max.

He deserves it if he is a real threat not to accept anything but the max. Plus, he might develop an unstoppable low post game during his contract, anyhow. It is an investment in a player who improves dramatically every year.

In my opinion he's still very raw. Most great players are able to dominate in 1-on-1 situations. All I see Kevin Love do is shoot threes and get fastbreak layups/dunks. He has no post game yet.

Same argument for why Blake Griffin doesn't deserve a max contract yet either.

I had earlier calculated that a max contract for 4 years for him would be $64m. So, (1) this reported contract is basically a max-level contract as it is. And, (2) why not just give him the max if you're that close anyway? Another $500k/year won't be the difference-maker in future deals.

The only thing I really see here to negotiate is whether or not to do year 5. He'll get the max for whatever years, either in this extension or in his RFA.

Kevin Love should get the max from Minny. Not even debatable. I completely understand the reservations but losing him for nothing would be much worse than "overpaying".

No post game? Have you watched Kevin Love play basketball? When I think of no post game I think of Blake Griffin.

I swear you say the dumbest things sometimes, but you talk crap when DD does it. Does Dwight Howard iso? Why the hell should any big man be able to iso? Save that **** for perimeter players. And lol, Kevin Love has a nice post game.

[rQUOTEr]Adding to report from our @Chris_Broussard; Sources say deal will be signed after shootaround now that Kevin Love gets opt out after Year 3. When Wolves wouldn't do five-year deal, Love's camp said they'd only do four-year deal WITH opt out after Year 3 to make him 2015 free agent[/rQUOTEr]

Interesting. So, he's gonna give it a shot with Rubio and then be able to get out as a free agent in 2015 or force Minny to deal him where he wants to go by the trade deadline in 2015.

Minnesota didn't want to give him a 5th year? Kahn must be brain-dead. Won't that be the same summer that Rubio and Derrick Williams become restricted free agents? Assuming nothing bad happens to anyone, Love will opt out so he can either leave or sign a richer contract. And, Min will have to sign 3 big-money contracts in the same summer (with possible Wesley Johnson having just cashed in the summer before). And, they have to pick which of those 3 gets the 5-year deal.

We don't know how many "big money" contracts Minny will have in the future. Even if 90% of everyone here believes Rubio will get a max deal, we have no idea on Derek Williams and it doesn't look like Wesley Johnson's "cash in" will be all that much assuming the T-Wolves even want to re-sign him.

Interesting Kevin Love quote: "I was willing to make a commitment for five years. They thought otherwise." Take that as you will.

From ESPN: "...the Wolves, sources said, refused all month to budge on their offer and give Love a fifth year."

Way to disrespect your franchise player lol. Dumbasses.

Kevin Love will be able to sign a max-free agent deal worth 30% of the salary cap in 2015 regardless of whatever the Wolves do with Williams and Rubio; the Kevin Durant Rule only applies to players coming off their rookie deals, who have less than 7 years experience in the league and are therefore only eligible for 25% of the salary cap.

In the new CBA, a player option is arguably the worst concession a team can include in a contract outside of a no-trade clause. That option will virtually only be picked up either A. if the player suffers an injury or loss of skill so that he's no longer worth the money, or B. if the player is traded to a new team prior to his 7th season. As we've seen with LeBron in Cleveland, when the star player isn't willing to commit to a team, getting free agents to believe in the team becomes very tough as well.

[rquoter]KLove isn't thrilled, but the TWolves took full advantage of the new CBA. It's what a small-market team has to do to have a chance. Getting opt-out after 3 years is KLove working new CBA, too: he can sign an extension 3 years from today or become UFA at season's end.[/rquoter]

So... when does Rick Adelman's contract end? At the same time as Love's opt out?

as long as minny doesn't offer a 5th year rookie max to anyone, i'm fine with it. But mark my words if rubio gets a 5th year rookie deal, love will be gone as soon as he can leave.

it is total disrespect at that point.

This is exactly how kahn SHOULD play it. I don't even think he should have left the door open with perhaps. Because, if anybody's worth it KL is that guy.

5th year deals are options, and they certainly shouldn't be a given, no matter who you are. This is the new cba. I feel you are going to see more deals like this in the future.
