I don't think him leaving OKC to win a ring is the issue here. If he left to the Spurs or Clips (and with KD they would be huge favorites), not many would have an issue. The problem many, incluidng myself, have with this decision is him choosing a team b/c he can't beat them. That's like if Lebron chose to join Boston b/c he coudln't beat them several years in a row. It's weak. Even if he wins a ring with the Warriors, his legacy would never reach its full potential had he gone to another team. He will never be considered the best player on the Warriors, nor its most valuable. He's not their best offensive nor defensive player, or at least clear-cut.
I think Durant made a mistake. OKC would have beaten the Warriors this year with better decision making down the stretch. With the addition of Oladipo who would also be a legit 3rd option, they are even better than last year. This OKC team would stand a good chance to beat the Warriors next year. On the other hand, as good as the Warriors are, they have enough scorers but rebounding and defense have proven to be their weakest link. The absence of Bogut is the main reason why they were beaten by the Cavs. If they cannot sign some decent big men for cheap, merely having Durant+Klay+Curry alone may not be enough to win the title. Another playoff exit after joining a loaded team would definitely hurt Durant's legacy more so than staying in OKC.
Warriors will be the clear-cut HUGE favorites next year, and rightfully so. When you have 2 of the top 3 players, and 4 of the top 15-20 players in your starting lineup, there's no question the team should be favorites. However, I think GS has to be concerned about its depth. Depth is the reason why they're so much better than everyone else, moreso than the greatness of their stars. Their bench won 2 games in the Finals for god sakes. We saw how the Warriors got worse as they got deep in the playoffs b/c their best players had to play heavier minutes v. more physical defenses.
Weak Sauce You cannot go to an 73-9 team and think you 'helping them win a championship' This is worse than LeBron in Miami Anything less than 73 wins means he made the team WORSE and he made OKC Worse So basically be just made the path to the finals EASIER for GSW just by not being on OKC . . .. I see now why you lost a 3-1 lead in the finals either 1. You **** on your old team to move where you wanted . . knowing that if you beat the Warriors then this move would look even ****tier or 2. You simply not a mentally strong enough to will your team to victory. . .. you folded like origami . . . . now you seeking an strong person to grab your hand and cake walk you to the finals Either way The league will figure it out Rocket River
I don't see how Durant makes them better when they just lost all that rebounding. How does he fit in to that offense? Not enough basketballs to go around
Could be worse. At least it didn't happen TO us. I couldn't imagine losing our superstar to our biggest rivals or say lose Harden to the Mavs.
This is a pretty shocking move. It screams weak. It screams beta. People saying that he left to join the Warrior because he couldn't beat them? He had a 3-1 series lead and was one win away from beating them! What a wimpy move to leave and join that team. With that said, of course the Warriors will be the huge favorites to win next year. Rightfully so, they should be. But let's not just give them the Title already. It will still be interesting to see how they manage Durant. They now have 3 guys to run around and try to shoot open 3's. But they lost their best picksetter in Bogut (even if those picks were illegal). They lost some of their interior defense and rebounding. I know Green is a versatile guy who can guard multiple positions, but if the Spurs get Gasol, how do they expect to stop a front line of Aldridge, Gasol, Duncan and West? Do they really need 3 guys that basically have the same skills? They lost some of their depth. Again, I'm not saying that they won't be favorites. They will be. But no matter how weak of a move this was for durant they will still have to prove it
Durant probably realizes he is getting old. He's been with OKC 9 years. Karl Malone was super loyal to Utah and has no rings to show for it. It's time for KD to think about KD.
LOL at all the "Durant will never be... blah blah blah" proclamations, like they are not only clairvoyant but that their opinions is so important. I swear its like they copy and pasted the posts from Lebron joining the Heat thread in 2010 without realizing the irony.
