Doing ok. Still at a plateau - Trying to reset a bit (a bunch of other distractions) Just gotta get more in to weight training and keep the cardio consistent Rocket River
I think most grown folks are supposed to go 25-35 lb. for the swing. Mine are 40lb, I'm a pretty strong guy but they certainly work out your core. I'll have to go read your other thread about weight loss but after 1 sesh I can definitely say KB is good for it. My heart rate was pretty steady "in the zone" on my fitbit and iirc it was something close to 200 calories burned in 20 minutes. I've been into functional strength more than weightlifting the last 2 years, in part because I'd always end up hurting myself lifting weights. Stuff like this, the chuck norris machine and the power tower, using my body weight to workout has been enlightening. The only thing I attempt that hurts is long runs. Less pain = more consistent workouts.
I saw your update in the other thread after I commented. I wouldn't sweat it. Even if you never lose another pound you kicked ass to lose what you did as fast as you did. That's something to be proud of. I can tell you from past experience that if I miss even one day at the gym I have to almost force myself to go back. (I can definitely relate.) If you get back into it, which I hope you do -- if for no other reason that you've proven you can and that you're good at it -- maybe you can mix up your routine a little bit, supplement some of that treadmill time with things like hikes/walks, swimming, bike rides, jump rope or ab exercises. In other words, add a new "wrinkle" from time to time to help yourself stay engaged and to challenge your body.
I have taken to wearing a 20 lb weight vest everyday so even my regular walking is more exercise. Yes functional strength I think is best I ain't trying to be THE ROCK Rocket River
I have some 20 lb some 35 lb and some 50 lb. I do thongs like swings and squats with the 50's and the rest for things like overhead presses. They quickly became my favorite things in my home gym.
Tried them before when doing plyometrics and changing up workouts to shock muscles. Kettlebells swings burn some of the highest calories per minute, just want to have good form and not go too heavy at first to prevent injury. And those Joe Rogan kettlebells are hilarious, good gift for someone. https://www.onnit.com/primal-bells/
I like them for goblet squats, ab crunches, and g-string like swings. I like medicine ball work too usually for explosive needs
If you scroll down there are lighter weight and variations they make. I would only use heavier ones like that for squats etc. and use lighter ones for swings/good form. Used kettlebells during the lockdown as some home gym items were selling out.
