you can be ignorant and say that crap if you want. or you can read into it. if you choose not to, your loss.
haha well yeah i am on a bit of a roll arent I. they have just been so outstandingly helpful to me (and my parents, sister, sister in law, brother and wife) and it would be remiss of me not to spread the word.
This is a workout I've been doing for a while: 1 minute clean and press 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute static rows 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute squats 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute bench press 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute swings 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute clean and press 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute static rows 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute bench press 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute swings 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest 1 minute snatches 1 minute heavy jog 45 seconds rest Keep in mind that the clean and press, static rows, squats, and bench press are all with double kettlebells. Swings and snatches can be down double as well but it's pretty tough for a minute. I usually use 16 kg for my routine. This is a great workout to burn fat and gain lean mass at the same time. If you have any questions hit me up. FYI for any beginner it's a must to look up Anthony Diluglio's website. He has dome great workout DVDs as well.
I got into KBs a couple months ago, and I just bought another one (50 pounder) yesterday. I like them a lot, but personally I can't do the KB swing for reps right now - it hurts a bone in my neck. However, I'm still using them for other exercises, mainly squats, lunges, and Turkish get-ups. For Americans, one of the best sources of info we have here is at www.dragondoor.com. Pavel Tatsouline (of the same) has a couple great books out about kettlebells. He preaches simplicity. Basically, instead of doing lots of isolation exercises, you could still get tremendously strong just by doing a couple compound exercises. Personally, I do squats and lunges for a lower body push, Turkish Get-ups and thrusters for a whole body press, and pull-ups and weighted pull-ups for an upper body pull. It's extremely effective. If you dig more variety, crossfit (www.crossfit.com) uses kettlebells, but only as part of a huge variety of exercises. Both schools are into intensity and muscle endurance vs working out to failure. This tends to create really strong athletes, but doesn't focus as much on bulking up. The best thing I have read in the last 3 months is this advice: do as much work as you can, while staying as fresh as you can. Caution: listen to your body. Do the exercises right - if you do kettlebells or squats with a rounded lower back, you WILL hurt yourself. AGAIN: YOU WILL HURT YOURSELF. Get Pavel's book "Enter the Kettlebell" and follow it to the letter, or get qualified instruction. www.kettlebellclub.com comes to mind for Houston. As Pavel likes to say, "If you don't listen to your body, or if you do it wrong, IT'S YOUR FAULT!"
Why do these things keep reminding me?!@? In case y'all didn't already know, I've got the biggest. And I'm itching to tell you about them. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g23GiivXC78&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g23GiivXC78&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
You seem awfully invested in the concept, name and spread of kettlebells. Did your grandpa-pa invent kettlebells by any chance?
Necrobump? For Kettlebells? I just got a pair. They swing between my legs and strengthen my hip thrusts! 20m burn this morning and I've got soreness in places I didn't even know had muscle.
They could be perfect for some exercises, too light for others. I have a 35 lb that I use mainly for kettlebell swings, squats & oblique leans (think that's what they're called) . It works great for those exercises but TBH I could and would probably do a wider range of exercises with something about 25 lbs. I was thinking about your exercise thread yesterday. Hope you're still kicking ass with your weight loss.
