If Jr wins this election it is truly sad that the only way is to slander his opponents to victory. He's done it his whole career. This is the kind of man you want to lead the free world TJ?

    Pathetic

Mark maybe I'm just naive but it seems like Bush just calls Kerry out on topics that Kerry brings up.

Kerry first started bringing up that he would be a better commander in chief because of his vietnam experience. So Kerry made it a topic, and now it is where it is.

Kerry says he'll add and protect american jobs. Bush's team asks how. Kerry has said thru tax credits (initially) and tax penalties (increasing taxes for companies who send jobs outside the US). Conservatives are asking for more details on the plan and that's about all kerry has come up with that I've heard (if anyone has other details please share). Maybe that's enough, but until he can say how much the incentive/penalty is, then it's hard to guage if his plan has any merit.

Kerry said he'd cut taxes for middle America. Bush's team immediately calls out his tax record of the past and for all teh tax increases he has approved.

The latest seems to be where Kerry says he'll reform the intelligence agencies to help fight terorists.

So Kerry brings up topics where he says he'd be better (commander in chief, protector of American jobs, champion of the middle class, terrorism) , yet everytime he does there is something in his past/plan that is questionable. it's not like Bush's team is just throwing out random facts about kerry. They are just saying Kerry says this, but he's done this in the past.

Kerry will have a much better chance (IMO) when he gets more detailed in his plans. let him lay out what his health insurance plan (for example) is and see if it makes sense to people (rather than just promising he'll do something). If you're going to promise something show me how you'll pay for it (raise taxes, increase deficit, reduce funding from here, etc).

    Chuckie

I agree 100% that we should address issues that you bring up. But it seems that all the administration wants to do is talk about something that happened 30 years ago. Look at the news the last three weeks. All we've heard about is the SBVs fiasco.

I agree that Kerry has brought a lot of this on himself and it will be interesting to watch over the next 10 or so weeks leading up to the election. Instead of Bush questioning everything Kerry stands for or says, why desn't he discuss how he is different and what he has, will bring to the table. Why? Because he can't! He has failed on pretty much every domestic issue out there! He knows he has no record to stand on so he attacks attacks attacks! That's all he can do!

A good indication of this difference is just look at the two candidate's website's home page. It's very telling!

Yeah, he is talking about creating jobs, improving education, improving the environment, researching renewable energy sources, enlisting worldwide support for the War on Terror, expanding the scope of stem cell research, and on and on.

All he is doing is reacting to the slander! What is he supposed to do? Sit by and just let it go?

    Mark-
I totally agree with you. I hope it stays a close election and then the debates become very large. I think that is the best stage for everyone (I know W is not a great speaker, but Kerry isn't on par with Clinton either so it isn't a mis-match by any means) to see the issues and the differences in the candidates.

Let's see what the candidates have to say. If they want to attack certain issues let them do it directly and see how the public responds. If they want to hi-lite other issues let them do it live and on TV so the other can ask the questions (how does it help, how much does it cost, an how do you pay for it). Right now it stinks because all the "low blows" are coming from others somehow associated with the candidates and not the candidates themselves. It'll b interesting to see who the country responds to in teh debates.

Don't sell Bush short on debates! I did four years ago much to my chagrin! Like Kerry said on the Daily Show the other night; Bush has never lost a debate. He is very strong! I agree that this election is too close to call from anyone and I believe the debates will be the turning point of this whole election.

Bush addresses the same issues at his campaign stops. Unfortunately you won't see it on your network news.

We do not need to divide America over who served and how.
--John Kerry defending Bill Clinton, 1992

There are some people in high office today who pulled strings to get into the National Guard.
    --John Kerry, October 2003

The issue here, as I have heard it raised, is was he present and active on duty in Alabama at the times he was supposed to be. . . . Just because you get an honorable discharge does not in fact answer that question.
--John Kerry, questioning President Bush's military-service record, February 8, 2004.

I think a lot of veterans are going to be very angry at a president who can't account for his own service in the National Guard, and a vice president who got every deferment in the world and decided he had better things to do, criticizing somebody who fought for their country and served.
    --John Kerry, April 2004
