WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski Kenyon Martin has agreed to a contract buyout with Xinjiang of the China Basketball Association, sources tell Y! Sports.
Do you think since he dog it in China to get out of his contract that he may have trouble in future non NBA contracts. I mean really how much longer is he a NBA player?
He has no choice, he's not performing well in China, considering that his salary is 2-50 times the salary of other American players and up to 1000 times of his teammates. I mean 14ppg in China ranks 35th currently, 9.8rpg also doesn't rank in the top 15. He still dives for loose balls but has no reliable offensive move that is required for bigs to play overseas and there's nobody throwing no-look alley oops. He also doesn't have the young legs to play 40+min/game which is more or less expected for all American players. His team wants to win the championship bad which is why they put so much money into this season and it looks more and more likely that Martin isn't the one to get it done. So either he quits or gets fired, it was a matter of time. The team even bought a mansion for him. Sad for both parties.
K-Mart will never sign another non-NBA contract so he couldn't care less. He's made a ridiculous amount of money in the NBA and just wants to play another year or two in the U.S. Someone here will sign him.
It is sad the team has to by him out. He shoudl be forced to pay to leave since he wants to ball in the US.
Looks like his new NBA team will be footing the bill... http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7329408/new-items-added-nba-collective-bargaining-agreement
I'm confused....he's agreed to a buyout, but he's still going to have to play out the season? What is being bough out then? I don't believe his contract is for more than a season, is it?
oh nevermind...i'm guessing it means he can leave the team, but can't sign in the NBA until the end of the chinese team's season...
No, it's resolved already. The team more or less wanted him gone so they can bring in a more productive player for the import slot. So obviously they wouldn't be difficult on him financially. Yahoo is reporting that he "will be paid only a pro-rated salary based on the 12 games he played for Xinjiang". That amounts to about $1 million. The NBA writers don't realize there's already an NBA free agent who has left China - Dan Gadzuric. Per Chinese rules, he also shouldn't be signing with an NBA team before March. However, NBA.com's Howard-Cooper is reporting that the Clippers are interested in Gadzuric. We'll see how things develop.
Of course not, if you need pictures http://m4.biz.itc.cn/pic/new/n/51/26/Img3032651_n.jpg http://m4.biz.itc.cn/pic/new/n/39/26/Img3032639_n.jpg http://m1.biz.itc.cn/pic/new/n/32/25/Img3032532_n.jpg http://m2.biz.itc.cn/pic/new/n/29/25/Img3032529_n.jpg http://m2.biz.itc.cn/pic/new/n/33/25/Img3032533_n.jpg http://www.fuo.cn/uploads/allimg/pic/2011102812230530.jpg
Kenyon Martin is actually a very good violin player. Doesnt mean that translates over into piano playing. But he has classical instrument skill underneath the thug surface.
