Yes, technically if he's not eligible for the NCAA they are considering him a European player without a contract... so it seems to me they could sign him.

I could be wrong..maybe he has to go through the draft in June first.

Ironically, he could have been part of the 2010 draft if they had figured out that he was going to be ineligible to play in the NCAA even though he had been attending prep high school in the US

He's still 18yrs old, isn't there like an age limit even for European players to come to the NBA?

I don't think so... or Rubio wouldn't have been eligible to... he was only 18 going through the draft wasn't he?

Edit: he hadn't turned 19 yet... during the draft he was 18... would have turned 19 during his first year in the NBA had he come over immediatately

I don't think any NBA team can just sign Kanter. Like Hayesfan said, he needs to go through the draft process first. The "rules" that apply to him (from a draft standpoint) may be uncharted waters, since he did enroll at Kentucky. Now, if he were already 21 or 22, then I believe a European player can be signed as a free agent if he hasn't already been drafted. Foreign players become automatically draft-eligible when they turn 22, I think.

As for Kanter playing in the D-League, that may not be a bad idea for him.

But he can make a lot more money playing overseas.

Heck, I bet Kentucky was paying more than the D-League will. ;)

Yeah I just found the rule, the player would have to be/or become 19 yrs of age the year that he is drafted.

    http://basketball.about.com/od/nbadraft/a/nbaagelimit.htm

So basically the youngest player in the 2010 NBA draft could not be born any later than 12/31/91, making Kanter(who was born in 92) ineligible had he tried to enter in the 2010 NBA Draft...

    .....

With that said I hope he enters the 2011 NBA Draft, I think the Knicks have a chance at being worse than last year, even with Amar'e. Making the Knicks "Rights to Swap" pick a possible high lottery pick, giving us a chance at Kanter!

Yeah based on that article I would agree, Renardo Sidney should not play college ball.

Kanter should not step foot on a college bball court either.

Next grasping-at-straws argument for the Kentucky fan who is in denial? I guess Calipari has that effect on college fanbases; that is, before he dumps you halfway through the Infractions Committee's investigation.
