lol, indeed. JVG saw the value in Chuck right from the beginning. And back then, Chuck wasn't nearly as good as he is now.

Chuck Hayes is a completely different player than he was with Jeff Van Gundy. Under Van Gundy, he really honed in on his defensive instincts and has become a fantastic defender. Under Rick Adelman, his offensive development has been really impressive. We've gone from "we play 4 on 5 with Chuck!" to Hayes being one of our best postmen at running the high post. He's shooting 75% from free throws -- Adelman might win Coach of the Year on that alone.

Both coaches seemed to have made their impression on Hayes, but one thing you can't deny is he's a heck of a player. I think of Hayes in a Udonis Haslem type role.. great defensive PF that can start on a great team.

To be honest, Rick Adelman figured out that Chuck is useful a long time ago. He was the starter in 07/08 until replaced by Scola and continued to play a role during Rick's tenure. It's not like Adelman abandoned the use of Chuck altogether.

Now, is the "new and improved" Chuck deserving of more minutes than he's been getting this season? I think so, but he still has his limitations.

Luis still has a role on the team. He can be productive with reduced minutes.

I think this is a great option, sad almost that Pat Pat came in smarter and more NbA ready than Hill, IDK if it was just me but it seemed like Hill came in and made dumb plays, he had the lowest +/- at -9  it'll be interesting to see tomorrow's lineup against Dallas.

if I remember correctly JVG didn't want him originally either, didn't chuck go through some 10 day contracts before finally sticking?

They played great out there tonight, I was just waiting for Rick to sub in Jhill so all hell would break loose on CF

Road trip starting tomorrow night, this is going to be a big test for our Rockets.

Bud was playing great on D, he's been logging on CF.

Haha this made me crack up. So true.

Gundy had Chuck pegged from day 1.

He actually got cut from the team before the season, a move JVG later said he regretted. Chuck's pretty much been my favorite player on the team since his first 10-day in January of that season when he was like a revelation compared to the likes of Juwan Howard and Stromile Swift. I actually thought he should have played more in that first season, but maybe JVG was strategically playing Juwan Howard and Swift more minutes in a subtle attempt to get us extra lottery balls.

I'm pretty sure Carl was joking about that. It isn't Scola's minutes Chuck should be stealing, just like it wasn't tonight.

You just get a bad feeling when Hill comes in. Especially against elite PF/C, he can't do anything to stop them except foul them soft enough that you'll definitely get a call but not enough to disturb the shot... It's called J-Hill D.

After Chuck signed with the Rockets, didn't JVG cut him? Even when he did play, JVG started Juwan Howard, Stromile Swift and Ryan Bowen over Chuck Hayes in '05-06. In Adelman's 1st season, Chuck played 80 games and started for 44 games.

Chuck is playing a career high in minutes under Adelman over JVG.

If the Rockets are able to get another center to start, they would be a great off the bench.

If we bring back Landry without trading these two then the testosterone of the frontcourt will reach lethal levels.
