Now I'm reading that Derby favorite lost a shoe during the race. That explains some of it. This field of 3 year olds is VERY good. Very competitve. It will be difficult to see a TC this year. But if he does it, it will be extremely legit!
yeah...that and the early entrance from the gate. unbelievable. his jockey did an awesome job of pulling him up early, though. another year without a TC winner.
It makes me wonder if he didn't tweak his ankle crashing through the gate. He looked ok coming back, but it takes a lot of force to jump through those things.
i don't think so. because his start was just fine. damn, that's an aggressive horse. i think he got clipped by the horse that pulled behind him. more than clipped, actually.
that's what it looked like to me. i haven't seen a close up of it yet. i'm sure ESPN will have something on it tonight.
When I was like 6~7 yrs old. . . I read a book that stated Horses had to be put down if they broke their legs then I was watching some Race [I think it was the derby] and they showed a horse break his leg in that race I've never been a fan of the sport since It is not logical but it definately put an impression on me that I have not been able to shake. . . everytime I see them running I have a fear that one of those magnificent animals may hurt it self Hearing about what happened today kind of brought it back. It really is amazing. To see this horse display so much energy, bucking and such, before the race and then after 100 or so yards everything changes. He went from a legitimate triple crown threat to fighting for his life. I felt sick watching Barbaro after the race was over when he continued to move his broken leg and couldn't put any pressure on it. Almost brought me to tears...
