Doesn't Peterson play behind Carter too. With the loss of Keon Clark, they could use Kenny more than Peterson. I think this would be good for both teams.
Peterson starts at SF...unless Murray takes his position, in which case he becomes the 6th man, as he was for Mich. State, while being an All-American.
He didn't start until Carter was out, correct? With Carter and Murray, they may be more inclined to pick up a guy like KT.
No, he was starting before that. Generally Peterson starts at SF and Carter at SG. There were certain times/matchups when Wilkens started JYD at SF, or Childs at PG, Alvin Williams shifted to SG, Carter to SF, and Peterson came off the bench, but those were very rare. Also, like just about everyone else on the Rockets and Raptors , Peterson was injured for some of last year.
One Question: After having dealt w/ quintessential 'tweener Corliss Williamson, why on earth would the Raps wanna trade for KT???
That's actually a very good point. Williamson was very much a square peg in a round hole with the Raptors, and his and Kenny's games are very similar. One thing though...the reason Corliss turned it on last year is largely credited to the Pistons convincing him to focus on the post, and stay away from his mediocre mid-range game. This was something the Raptors either didn't try to do, or were not able to do. I'm not sure if Kenny has as distinct an inside-outside differential.
whoa whoa whoa...hold on. Corliss never really played PF in the NBA. Michael Smith, Brian Grant, Thorpe, and Webber played that in Sac when Corliss was there (even Billy Owens played some PF). Clifford Robinson/Rebracca were the "centers" and Ben Wallace played PF/C at Detroit last year. At Toronto, Davis manned the PF position, and they had Oakley, Willis, too. there are good tweeners (guys who can actually play 2 positions) and bad tweeners (guys who can't play their college position in the NBA). MacBeth, Do you really consider Corliss and KT's game similar? imo, the only thing similar to them is their reported body size, and in real life when you see them standing next to each other you can see why Corliss as never successfully played PF. Just because they are so-called tweeners doesn't make them similar. KT is so much better at defense than Corliss it is laughable, and Corliss really cannot play PF. Corliss is more like Fizer, Stacey King and Fox in a sense that they played PF in college, but can't really do it the NBA. He is incapable of playing PF and a poor rebounder at the PF position, so he has to learn another position. KT is fully capable of being a quality backup PF. He can defend both 3 and 4 far better than Corliss and Fizer can. And their offensive games are not similar, at all.
Kenny would be a good fit for them because he can play 4 in the east, and they lost Keon Clark. With Murray on board, MO P for Kenny looks good for both teams and players. Both players get more opportunities to play and excel. This is what trading is supposed to be about...
There are certain extreme similarities, but as I pointed out, Corliss is much more of an inside only player than Kenny, and better at that aspect. Both like to square up from the elbow-in, and usually look to penetrate from there. Corliss has been persuaded to concentrate on his back to the basket game, which is his strength, but before that they were very similar. Kenny is more fluid, IMO, while Corliss is a better leaner, like a poor man's Dantley. Neither of them is anything to write home about defensively. I don't agree that Williamson is incapable of playing the 4, but do agree he hasn't much. Had Kenny been on those teams, he's have played mostly at the 3 too. I don't remember them ever standing next to each other, but I would say that Williamson is a lot harder/leaner looking, while Kenny always seem to have something of a baby-fat look about him, even if a lot of it is muscle.
imo, Corliss plays no defense. He certainly cannot rebound very well. When it comes to frontcourt intensity, Corliss and Kenny are opposites. KT actually plays like a PF, hard-nosed, low-post moves, and will bang for rebounds. Corliss is Rick Fox with no defense. If Fox was told to score, he'd be just a good a scorer as Corliss; he's done it before at Boston. Corliss and Fox are both similar size, and they both played low post in college, and they both had to make adjustments to SF. One learned how to play defense; the other doesn't care to. KT can actually play PF as a bench player.
While I would not want to take Dream back in a trade, I think you may have something regarding Cato and KT to Toronto. I was fishing around the Raptors site and came across this article. by Chuck Swirsky -- raptors.commentator Sept. 26, 2002 Here are some quick thoughts on recent news from the Raptors front. Lamond Murray fell in the Raptors lap when the Cavs decided to move him in a deal that sent Yogi Stewart and a future number one pick to Cleveland. Murray can flat out score and will be a huge plus for the Raps bench. He can pop the three ball and has confidence in his shot. Murray Murray wanted out in Cleveland was granted his wish. As you may recall he almost single-handedly beat the Raps in the final game of the season draining six-three point shots . He had the mojo going and that's what the Raps are looking for this year. Stewart leaves with an opportunity to play in Cleveland. This Cavs team is collecting young players with hopes of landing backyard future superstar LeBron James in next year's NBA Draft. James is the real deal and if the Cavs get the #1 overall pick I guarantee you he'll pack the Gund. Yogi is a good man and I wish him the best. The news on Eric Montross is not good. His injured foot has not healed and is out for an indefinite period of time. The Raps have got to be concerned about the lack of depth in the middle. That's all for now. Chuck Swirsky Given Dream's bad back, Montross' bad foot, and Keon's departure for SAC, it seems as if Toronto is very thin up front. This leaves Davis and JYD starting up front with little to no bench back up. Cato and KT to Toronto would make since as far as Toronto's lack of healthy big men.
I just gotta say I think your analysis of the KT - Scoreless comparisons are spot on heyp. I've never really understood that. Corliss deserves to be in the unsuccessful tweeners who finally had a good season as a sub in the east pile. KT deserves to be in the solid yet undersized pf club. Corliss wont get in the club. He's got the undersized down, but, sorry, not a solid pf.
Now I have it REALLY figured out - check this out: Houston trades: PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 34.5 minutes) PF Jason Collier (4.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.4 apg in 14.6 minutes) SF Terence Morris (3.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 16.3 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 25.5 minutes) Houston receives: C Hakeem Olajuwon (7.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 22.6 minutes) SF Lamar Odom (13.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.9 apg in 34.5 minutes) C DeSagana Diop (1.4 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 6.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: -7.1 ppg, -7.6 rpg, and +3.7 apg. Toronto trades: SF Morris Peterson (14.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg in 31.6 minutes) PG Lindsey Hunter (5.8 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.6 apg in 19.7 minutes) C Hakeem Olajuwon (7.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 22.6 minutes) Toronto receives: PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 72 games) C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 75 games) SF Jumaine Jones (8.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.4 apg in 81 games) PG Bimbo Coles (3.2 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 2.3 apg in 47 games) Change in team outlook: +5.3 ppg, +10.4 rpg, and +0.9 apg. L.A. Clippers trades: SF Lamar Odom (13.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.9 apg in 34.5 minutes) L.A. Clippers receives: SF Morris Peterson (14.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg in 63 games) Change in team outlook: +0.9 ppg, -2.6 rpg, and -3.5 apg. Cleveland trades: SF Jumaine Jones (8.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.4 apg in 26.4 minutes) C DeSagana Diop (1.4 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 6.1 minutes) PG Bimbo Coles (3.2 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 2.3 apg in 14.7 minutes) Cleveland receives: PF Jason Collier (4.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.4 apg in 25 games) SF Terence Morris (3.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 68 games) PG Lindsey Hunter (5.8 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.6 apg in 82 games) Change in team outlook: +0.9 ppg, -0.2 rpg, and -1.1 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston, Toronto, and Cleveland being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Toronto, and Cleveland had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have been assigned Trade ID number 781169 Why do they do it - Houston: Dream comes back home, with Odom running the break, it's over, Diop could be the massive body and potential enforcer we need to protect Ming. Toronto: Dream is done and Montross is injured - they need an inside presence and they get it with Cato and Kenny Thomas. Plus, they get a backup PG with Bimbo Coles and a good defender with upside with Jumaine Jones. Clippers: They know they cannot pay everyone next year so they have to let Odom go. Mo Pete is a player that's locked up for one more year than Odom and he comes relatively cheap. Cleveland: They have to try to do something new. They are extremely weak at the point guard position and have no reliable 3-point shooting. Lindsey Hunter should help them with both weaknesses. Jumaine Jones is a loss, but Diop had foot problems and Lucas knows Collier and Morris and believes they have potential . OK OK HOMER TRADE BUT IT WOULD BE NICE!
Now that I'm at it... Houston trades: PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 34.5 minutes) PF Jason Collier (4.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.4 apg in 14.6 minutes) SF Terence Morris (3.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 16.3 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 25.5 minutes) Houston receives: SF Lamar Odom (13.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.9 apg in 34.5 minutes) C Hakeem Olajuwon (7.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 22.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: -8.5 ppg, -8.5 rpg, and +3.4 apg. L.A. Clippers trades: SF Lamar Odom (13.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.9 apg in 34.5 minutes) L.A. Clippers receives: PF Jason Collier (4.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.4 apg in 25 games) SF Terence Morris (3.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 68 games) SF Morris Peterson (14.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg in 63 games) SF Chris Jefferies (14.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg in 63 games) Change in team outlook: +8.9 ppg, +3.8 rpg, and -2.2 apg. Toronto trades: C Hakeem Olajuwon (7.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 22.6 minutes) SF Morris Peterson (14.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg in 31.6 minutes) SF Chris Jefferies (14.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.4 apg in 31.6 minutes) Toronto receives: PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 72 games) C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 75 games) Change in team outlook: -0.4 ppg, +4.7 rpg, and -1.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston, L.A. Clippers, and Toronto being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston, L.A. Clippers, and Toronto had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. More realistic than the one before??
Congratulations, this thread was on the brink.... Thanks to you... it has officially.... ____________________________________________________ Crossed the line.
HELL... I will add one more line to the thread just to show I appreciate your creativity, desire, time, and imagination to come up with the trade. I guess its the coaching in me lvoing to see EFFORT!!! Good Job!!
"Ya see, ya don't tell these kinda jokes or people aren't gonna think you're right, Uh Heh Heh". - Hank Hill
I think it was dead a few posts earlier when the news of Eric Montross' foot broke... damn the sport will never be the same!!
Silly me... I thought it came alive when thacabbage showed up. Any other info flying around the ether regarding this rumor?? This possible trade's got me intrigued now. KT for MoPete. How do we do it? Is there REALLY anything to this? Have any of our other lurking big-guns got a sniff of something? This is more fun than "How long does Rudy have? How long does Yao have before he's a bust? Do we bash Cat today or Steve? Mooch or MoT?" (camp is coming... right??)
