Phili has the walking corpse KVH and old man Coleman, damn they are going to love Kenny's work ethic.

agree with Haven, Posey has no range but defensively will be a big plus.

wonder how Mrs Rice will feel about this??

This is a GREAT trade for us. No, really, I am SHOCKED that we pulled something like this off. I am so freaking excited.

Posey plays down at Westside in the summer so he's already familiar with Houston and the players. He is a very, very hard worker. Last summer, he woke up 5 in the morning every day to work on his game. In the beginning of the season he was doing pretty damn well and had a few triple doubles. He can score, is athletic, and can let us have a ridiculous back court with Steve and Cat. He is fundamentally sound and a solid player who still has much potential. Not only do we get rid of the logjam (and blackhole) at PF, but we also add a significant improvement to our SF/ back-up SG.

I can't think of anything bad about this trade other than our losing some rebounding from the PF position. Posey did have a bad percentage at Denver, but he was their primary scorer and one of two best players. He's been pretty much under the radar because of being in Denver, but I have seen and heard many good things about him

We are very lucky, and our line-up is looking like it's on the way to the level of Sacramento, Dallas, Portland, etc. Not quite that deep, but this is IMO a huge pick-up.

On 610AM they just played a tape of Carroll Dawson discussing the trade.

According to CD, the trade was done to relieve the logjam at the four and to balance out the team. Posey can play the three and the two. Posey works out here some during the summers, so some of the players know him. CD said when they were looking around at what they could do to, this is what they could do right now, without having to wait awhile, to relieve the logjam.

All the players involved still have to pass physicals in order for the deal to go through. But I think Posey may be here tonight or at the latest, tomorrow morning.

Houston trades: PF Kenny Thomas (9.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.0 apg in 29.3 minutes)
Houston receives: SG James Posey (14.1 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.1 apg in 34.9 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +4.3 ppg, -1.0 rpg, and +1.1 apg.

Philadelphia trades: PF Mark Bryant (1.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.1 apg in 7.0 minutes)
PF Art Long (2.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.1 apg in 6.9 minutes)
Philadelphia receives: PF Kenny Thomas (9.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.0 apg in 20 games)
Change in team outlook: +6.6 ppg, +3.2 rpg, and +1.8 apg.

Denver trades: SG James Posey (14.1 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.1 apg in 34.9 minutes)
Denver receives: PF Mark Bryant (1.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.1 apg in 11 games)
PF Art Long (2.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.1 apg in 19 games)
Change in team outlook: -10.9 ppg, -2.2 rpg, and -2.9 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston, Philadelphia, and Denver being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Philadelphia, and Denver had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The thing that made me wonder was that it said something about Art Long having some contract stuff that didn't expire until December 30th, possibly hindering this trade from becoming reality before that date...and since this info was leaked as is stated in the AP article, hopefully it doesn't cause another Damon Stoudamire ordeal if they can't actually pull the trigger for another couple weeks.

Doesn't he have to report to the team within 48 hours of the trade? Anybody else know anything?

    ops, updates --> upgrades

Rox can play the lineup of

    Yao
    Griffen
    Posey/Rice
    Mobley
    Francis

    or

    Yao
    Griffen
    Rice
    Posey/Mobley
    Francis

depending on the matchup, eventually the lineup is going to be

    Yao
    Griffen
    Nachbar
    Posey/Mobley
    Francis

It can be a very good defensive as well as scoring team.
Now the one thing remaining is to hope Griffen can develop. But Rox can always hedge that by bringing in a veteran banger-type PF.

Posey put up a bad FG % at Denver partly because he went from being a defensive minded role player into a focal point of the offense, which isn't in his style. I think he will be more comfortable in his role with Houston, where he can get points without having any plays set up for him.

Wow, wow, WOW, this is an AWESOME deal! The Rockets got the defensive stopper they needed, another scorer who doesn't need to dominate the ball, a rebounder, passer and he is tall, 6-8. This team just became far more athletic and versatile. The Rockets are going to be a legit force.

People here have mentioned Posey starting. I dont think that will happen, at least for a while. I dont see Rice getting benched.

what side from the fact MoT and Eddie can't guard a paper bag, let the competition start now to see which Power Forward can score the most against the records, my guess will be Duncan with 70 pts.

me thinks we are going to play alot of zone.

Eddie is a good defender. Dont even put him in the same ballpark as MoTay.

BTW...if this trade gets approved and all, Denver is really, really a horrible team:

    Howard
    Hilario
    Blount
    White
    Whitney

If rumblings had seeped into the bbs, like they usually do with trades like this, I would have been more indifferent, having weighed the pros and cons of adding Posey to death.

The fact I saw it flash across the screen on ESPN out of nowhere came as a bit of a shock.

I liked Posey with Xavier and I've liked him with the Nuggets, but I'm not going to pretend his shot isn't as inconsistent as they come.

The fact he's a player that will give this team a defensive identity on the perimeter excites the hell out of me though.

    Good luck Kenny.

Are you talking about the Eddie Griffin that has completely shut down Rasheed Wallace the past couple of years? He doesnt have the quick hands to steal a lot of balls like KT, but he makes up for it in blocked shots.

I kindof followed Posey a little bit last season (when M Bateer was in Denver) and liked his play very much - a big-time defender and a hard-worker. He is a bigger version of Hawks and will definitly help our defense. Good Trade!
