this is what i said about kenny smith as an option for us, way jack in january:

see the link in my sig.

i have no doubt he would be a really good coach, but i would still prefer someone proven like vogel, jvg, or joerger. i'd put him in the group right behind those names with guys like messina and boylen. they will probably be really good nba head coaches, but haven't done it yet.

It would be awesome if they brought in the TNT crew.

Can't wait for Kenny to give Harden pointers on how to look like he cares as his man drives past...

I wouldn't hate this. He has knowledge and I think he can relate to the players and change Harden's mindset. I think Kenny could work.

Yes, plus Kenny has been around seeing great coaches in his lifetime that I am sure he has picked up some knowledge that he can use.

It's not the worst Idea. Kenny ain't no punk. He is a basketball lifer, if he's hired I expect that Bill O'Brien work ethic. He will be watching game tape at 3am in the dead of July. If you've ever watched Kenny's pictures, you know he knows X's and O's. He has a great relationship with the owner and I think he's opinionated and tough minded enough to tell management where to go when they try to force philosophy and get in player's **** when they're hot-doggin it. It would all come down to who he hires for his staff to ingrain his philosophy. It would be a win-win for all parties, we'd get a knowledgeable coach and Kobe could then join Inside The NBA. Kenny is a very intriguing candidate, we all know what happened to the last coach to go from tnt to the sidelines:

I like the though of it. If nothing else, I'm confident that he would be able to reach and manage the locker room.

I know Kerr was a GM first, but if he can do it - Kenny definitely can.

The last part of the season I was thinking about Marcus Camby coming in to block some shots or even play alongside of Capela. Would have been an improvement over some of Howard's games he took off. would not have made any difference on the scoring:grin:

Could be part of why Barkley apologized, Kenny being a rocket, possible coach candidate having to listen to Barkley spew hate all the time.

I agree with Kenny on most of what he says on Inside the NBA and the halftime reports, he's got a good basketball mind and I think he could get to the majority of the players, my concern would be can he get to/control harden?

I think Kenny would be a great coach because he knows basketball. He's been in it for so long, and when it's halftime and kennys pictures are on, you know he knows what he's talking about.
I don't think he would take the job as an assistant, but as a head coach. If he can sign on as the coach and get Cassell as the assistant, we will be in good shape.
Only other options I'd consider are JVG and Frank V

I'd be upset if someone who has paid 0 dues gets a HC gig here. Kenny Smith hasn't done a thing other than letting Barkley and Shaq sound stupid while he bits his tongue for 4 minutes since he retired.

What's a bit unnerving to me is Kenny Smith is exactly the type of personality that might be able to fool Les into hiring him. Hell, Kenny has convinced have of y'all he can coach, Les cant be that much harder to win over.
