man, watching inside the nba all these years, i just never got the impression kenny understands all that much about basketball. maybe a little more than barkley, but nothing that ever ventured far beyond whatever the conventional (and often wrong) wisdom was.
the warriors job isn't opening up. there's only so many openings if you want to get your start in coaching. a team with a superstar and cap room and that considers a .500 season a disaster is better than a lot of other opportunities you can get.
Do the Rockets ever make a decision based on basketball and not based on what will get them the most attention on TV?
How did us feel about mark Jackson on TV before he got the Warriors gig? And then how did u feel about him being sacked?
I like Kenny Smith as coach of this team. He's a proven winner and has won at everything he's done in his life so far. He's easy to get along with, but he's also determined and has ties to the Rockets organization. There's no way in hell Kenny would accept the job if he didn't think that he could turn the ship around. With Kenny, it's all about winning. I still remember when the Rockets were down 3-1 to the Suns in 1995, it was Kenny Smith who rallied the troops and got his boys to "Believe". He was a true leader back then and he remains a leader even to this day. Sure, he works a different job but has won multiple awards while working it and is a huge reason TNT has won those awards. All the guy does is win and that's all he cares about. If there is any guy out there who could get these guys on the same page, its Kenny the Jet!!!!
i didn't think much of him. he probably slightly surpassed my expectations as a coach but i also didn't think it was any big deal to fire him because he didn't seem great or anything.
I'm right with you on this one. He seemed to be the balance on the other end of the show from Barkley but never gave any real deep insight into X & Os. It's totally different than the vibe I got from steve kerr when it was announced that he would coach the warriors.
Kenny Smith to the Rockets is picking up steam nationally. Kenny is very respected and highly regarded. I'm still not on board but I'm very intrigued
Championship Point Guards become good or great coaches atleast most of the time, right? Think about it.... Kerr Kidd Avery Johnson Only bad one I can think of off top is Derek Fisher, but then again, who does good in New York? Especially trying to teach a watered down offense in the triangle.
It appears that Murray can only hire TNT analysts for coaches. 1. McHale 2. Smith 3. In 2 years after Smith is fired...Barkley?
Mark Jackson was boring and unnecessary stubborn as a TV analyst, and he is proven he is exactly that as a head coach as well.
