Atkinson also mentioned Adelman as a mentor along with Pop and MDA.

Can anyone really connect with Kyrie Irving?

Outside of Lebron, has it ever happened once?

If Kenny is the pick, going to need his top assistant to be just as good a HC.

Because KA is many things but hes not calm.

mentored by Adelman, MDA, and Budenholzer.

I think as a HC he's shown the pace from MDA, which he weren't getting from MDA (weird). he's added in wrinkles of the spurs motion offense from Budenholzer, and some Princeton offense from adelman. its a bit of a mix and that's really good.

the question was his defensive chops, but the nets were a good defensive team (top 10 this year) without having great defensive players.

the more I learn about each of the candidates the more my list changes but right now KA is on top. lue with his championship experience and reputation of great game management seems to fit our needs perfectly, but we'd have to have a good defensive assistant and rely heavily on morey/harden for offense again. still lue would be my #2. then Silas as a fall back I think is ours if we want him.

    -Lue is a champion
-Mark Jackson turned a horrible franchise into a winning one in less than 3 years
-Sam is a former Rocket legend who's paid his dues and is a respected assistant coach

Explain how Atkinson is more qualified than any of these guys?

a good defensive coach who also uses elements of MDA/adelman/spurs offense... and is also known for player development... should be our first option. can win now and also lead us through a rebuild in 3 years.

I would rather go with Jeff Van Gundy.

Hell why not. The man looks like he gives a damn. He doesn't look to build a team to bear L.A or beat the Warriors or Clippers. He looks to build his own juggernaut with what he is given. Better than JVG!

    Why was KD against Atkinson?

KD never played a minute for Kenny.

I do agree he's a good choice if we can't get other candidates, Kyrie and Durant are tempermental and can definitely be sensitive.

But there are and have been head coaches out there that can handle that and have won in the past and will win in the future with them.

Sensitve players or not he did lack the ability to connect with them to make it work at the end of the day.

I agree his talent level was low but that same team was actually worse that year he took over than the coach before him.

They lost one more game, were ranked one spot lower in Ortg, they also had the lowest SRS in the league, 30th of 30 which was down from 28th the year before him.

Bojan actually improved the next few years offensively with other teams and coaches after Atkinson. Dimwiddie is a actually a serviceable player, and he later got the #2 pick in the draft in D'Angelo Russell.

Now he did do the best he could and I will say some pros about him to be fair.

I will say his teams improved over time to his credit, he's competitive and a gym rat from what I've read. Here is his coaching record:

But one key is that he is likely a good coach for a developing or rebuilding team, but he will still be figuring things out and hasn't learned how to win and have playoff success.

He may ultimately develop into a good coach, but he will have growing pains for a few years like he did in the regular seasons in Brooklyn, this team doesn't have a window of years to wait.

A veteran head coach with championship experience is a better first choice for a team who is in win now mode and who's stars are over 30 imo.
