<br> Why is Morris in this conversation? The thread is about Faried But in all seriousness, it's a relevant question (they both play the same position, both rookies, etc..) that you seem to not be answering. Why do you think Parsons is starting and getting minutes while Morris is not? Do you believe that Parsons just got lucky and got the chance that Morris did not?
Neither gives an accurate picture of what he's accomplished. His season averages are 10 pts, 7 rebs in 21 mins at 59%. His last 10 games are 12/8 in 25 mins at 59%. Not bad for a rookie relying only on hustle, strength and athleticism. You can't judge a player solely by his rookie season, so it will be on Faried to improve himself and grow into being a more productive player.
Well the OP mentions how Faried should have been picked instead. Parsons obviously showed the coaches in practice something they liked. That does not make the coaches decision on not giving Morris a shot at real PT right though. They both can get consistent minutes. I think Morris can be a better player than Chase... It's like this... the coaches in this situation (going for a playoff spot) will play it safe. At the start Morris was sent to the Dleague to prove he could play SF. By the time he comes back the Rockets are in a battle for every win they could get and really can't risk to throw a unknown out there for important minutes. So a player like Chase will get more of the minutes. In this spot the coaches always go with the veteran player and by February Parsons has already locked down a spot. Parsons came into the league as a 3 and Morris did not. The coaches in tight races like this will go with the more experienced player This is how Boykins gets called in and takes away all of Fortson's minutes immediately...even when Fortson wasn't even doing that bad. Right now it's entirely possible that Morris isn't getting minutes simply because he's a unknown to even us. At the start it's possible Morris didn't get the PT because he had to prove he could play SF in the dleague.
Morris was given the first opportunity and laid eggs. Parsons contributed from the very start and as a result earned more consistent minutes.
4 minutes is a great opportunity. I agree. I hope for every rookie we get we decide on 4 mins of play whether they will be any good or not.
I have to question whether you watched those games? If you did you'll know he froze up on the court. The pressure got to him, he wasn't ready to play.

At this point, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to give Morris decent mins because the rotation is already pretty much set and the team is playing well together. However, to compare Morris to Thabeet is also sheer lunacy. They are in no way the same player or do they compare in any way aside from both playing for the Rockets. Seriously, you can't just say EVERY young player that isn't getting minutes doesn't deserve it or that they are a bust. It ridiculous that just because Thabeet didn't turn out well that you automatically compare every struggling young player to him... SMH
I never said you compare EVERY player. I said struggling young players. And maybe you don't, but then why the hell do you compare Morris do Thabeet? There is no connection at all. Thabeet coming out of college was a giant, but he was VERY raw offensively and had awful footwork. Not much changed since... Morris was smaller, but he was a VERY skilled player coming out of college. His offensive game was not raw at all, and if you watched him play at Kansas, then you know he could knock down jumpers all day. From what we have seen his ball handling is good too and he moves pretty well so it just makes sense that he could make the transition to SF. He still needs some work, and certainly some minutes, but that will come with time. I don't understand how you get off compare him and Thabeet...
The excuse being used for Morris is the same as for Thabeet. They supposedly weren't given a fair chance to show what they could do. That is doubtful. You can argue that some coaches are very bad developing rookies. Problem is, Parsons has done very well under McHale. That leaves one to argue there is some sort of favoritism towards Parsons over Morris, which is a desperate reach. Silly nonsense to make an excuse for the failure of Morris as a rookie. Do you actually agree with this statement? it's entirely possible that Morris isn't getting minutes simply because he's a unknown to even us BTW, I saw a couple of Morris' D-league games online and he didn't impress me AT ALL. Seems to be a tweener who's too small to play PF and not skilled enough to be a SF in the NBA. To use a baseball term, he's a 4A player.
This statement is completely true whether you think so or not. You don't know what you have until you actually play the guy. The statement is only saying that the games are too important now to throw out a unknown and worry about developing young players. I saw all but about two of Morris NBDL games and I came away impressed. He put up good numbers and then showed that he can score a variety ways. I don't see how anyone watching his Dleague games can say he doesn't look skilled enough to play SF when his scouting report AND the Rockets own say the opposite.
Morris could become a good player, it is hard when u don't get the min cause u can tell his confidence is down...with that being said he will have to wait till next year and come in determined to play his butt off and Earn pt...McHale is old school so he isn't giving nothing till you show it in practice...way too late to experiment now
Well it is pretty difficult to see what he could do unless he actually gets playing time... Terrence Williams didn't get any minutes here and he's putting up solid numbers in Sacramento. Chandler Parsons is an exception. He happens to be a 6'10 SF who has serious skills defensively. And his offensive game will only get better... Look, don't get me wrong. At this point I am not advocating that Morris gets minutes or that TWill would have solved all of our problems. He is actually better off with the Kings where he will get the minutes he needs to develop and he doesn't have to worry about being pulled from the game for a couple of dumb plays. All I am saying is that I believe Morris will be a good player (for us or somebody else) and that next season I am hoping he gets a better opportunity. He will eventually need some minutes to develop as well. He doesn't strike me as a Thabeet at all. As for Faried, he is a good young player, but I have my doubts that he'll ever be anything more than a terrific bench/hustle player. There is nothing wrong with that, but I still hope and believe that Morris will be the better player in the long run. After all, PPat got so much praise last season and was maybe a bit overhyped. Now75% of the board is hating on him even though he doesn't deserve it at all...
The coaches know Marcus Morris very well. They've been at every practice and have seen 100% of his playing time at D-League and with the Rockets. To think he's "unknown" to the Rockets staff is just crazy. They know his (current) limitations and skills. This is why he never got on the floor and why Parsons blew past him into the rotation. Morris isn't Thabust, but his future in the NBA may not be much of anything. We'll see. I'll be surprised if succeeds at being a rotation player at SF in the NBA. After a couple of years, he may want to look overseas if things don't get better. Because he's on the Rockets, I hope he breaks out next year. T-Will is a malcontent who's alienated 3 coaches. He's on a trash team right now playing for nothing, which is where he belongs. Morey wasted a pick trading for the guy. Maybe one day his head will get screwed on straight, maybe not. Faried just needs to build on what he's done this season, improve himself a little and gain experience. If he does, he'll have a long, lucrative career in the NBA as a role-player. I'd rather have someone like him than either of the two above.
The coaches knew Jeremy Lin very well too I bet. Knicks coaches as well since they were close to cutting him... Point is a player is a unknown UNTIL he actually has played consistently. Some guys are just gamers and play better in games than they ever could in practice.
Steve Nash, Jeremy Lin or [name your player]. Maybe Marcus Morris could be like them. It's just highly unlikely. I don't know why you are so attached to Morris but if he means that much to you, keep believing. Time will prove.
