Production is great.. I love the jazz and abstract elements. Kendrick with the wide range of vocal styles as usual Channeling his inner tupac at times .. very gritty
at first I did loove youuu, but now I just wanna f***. Late night thinking of youuu, until I get my nut. Toss and turn, lesson learned, you was my fiiirst giirlfriendddd
Thank god the album isn't "commercial". Commericalized Rap like Drake, Lil Wayne, etc is basically what has killed hip hop. All the greats have stayed away from that model thankfully (Black Thought, Rakim, Common, Talib Kweli, Nas (for the most part lol)...
There are MCs and there are entertainers.. some balance that better than others.. nas does well at that
Jeez so many negative Nancy's on here(also countered by those that probably love any thing Kdot puts out). I read all the negative reviews here and read the critics positive reviews before going ahead to give it a listen. (Disclaimer: I wasn't a big fan of GKMC. I thought it was simply a good album and gave it a B-, a B at best). This album was very good. Not a great album but definitely not a bad or average album. It was well produced, actually better produced imo than GKMC. The best analogy I could think of for both albums is that GKMC was like the Miami Heat last season while TPAB is like the Spurs last season. One had a number of All-Stars(songs) on it but wasn't a completely solid team (album) while the other doesn't have any stand out All-Stars (imo) but is just a completely solid team(album). I'd give it a B+
Loved Section 80, liked GKMC, indifferent about this one. There are really good songs but the over zealous fans saying this is so out there and original are the same people that hate Andre's Love Below. That being said I liked it. But Action Bronson put out a better hip hop CD. And Luda comes out next week so Idk if Kendrick is going to get past the 5 times I've played the CD.
How so? Ludacris was culturally relevant for at least 8 years with 6 number one albums and help bring a new area of southern hip hop. Action Bronson also is part of the New York Renaissance era of hip hop. Love Kendrick and he is important but Luda is definitely at his level. Listen to War with God and then tell me Kendrick is the best. Ehhhh "You telling me I can be King of hip hop and they wouldn't give it Andre 3000, *igga please." -Krit
Luda? You having a laugh? Not talking about his rapping ability but in terms of commercialized rappers you know he is up there right? (Also- some of us liked A3000's Love Below AND TPAB).
And Kendrick didn't do that from his jump from Section 80 to GKMC? His lyrics were way more political and socially minded in Section 80 than GKMC. Also I do agree that there are tons of people that love love below and this CD. Maybe the reviews from pretentious clowns have made me sour. Also does anybody know what happened to the song he played on The Colbert Report. That was a super bummer. Really wanted to hear the studio version. Probably would have been my favorite in the album.
Just because GKMC had Swimming Pools doesn't mean it's commercial The song wasn't your typical b****es, booze in the club song. But it could be perceived as. Compton was a hype song w Dr. Dre on it. It was entirely social and politically oriented just like this album is... this time its more overt
