Not necessarily. My gut instinct is that now that Ken Lay is deceased, the gubment will go after everything.

The government will not, Lay can not appeal anything anymore so he has no chance to fight it. They just were having this discusion on the news as well. They said the government will probably just leave it alone. It is now considered a moral victory not a law victory. The civil courts will have to help decide everything now.

California's idiotic elected representatives screwed up the California energy market. Try electing some people that have a clue what they are doing!

Deregulation only works if you go all the way with it! You can't have a hybrid system!

Gray Davis was a ****ing joke who kept brushing off the people (FERC and the energy consortium) that were trying to help him out of his mess.

Could it be because they kept hearing from Lay and Skilling that they should invest totally in Enron? You're right...they probably didn't know any better. I sure as hell don't. I don't have a clue about investing. I would assume that those that built a multi-billion dollar company know better than I do. I would probably take their advice. I would also assume that those telling me these things wouldn't be the one's that will screw me and ruin my financal livelihood in the end.

As Kyakko said, it's not just about what they did to the employees of Enron. It's also about what they did to the citizens of California.

Yes, Ken Lay did have his hand in many civic projects for the betterment of Houston. Other People's Money is so easy to spend.

Nino Brown gave away Turkeys on Thanksgiving. He was still a crooked drug dealer though.

So because they had a screwed up system, it was ok for Enron to take advantage of it?

gray davis was a joke, but enron didn't have to take advantage of situation illegally, by causing artifical blackouts. ken lay didn't have to give a bs speech about supply and demand when there were powerplants running at half capacity. there were elderly people here forced to choose between food and heat while enron made hundreds of millions.

    O.k its conspiracy theory time.

    Sorry in advance.

But ever since this trial started I have been telling anyone who would listen that the Gov would never let Lay serve serious time....he might start squealing..and he knows where too many of the bodies are buried.

But his family is still living much much better then the employees that lost all of their life savings. I'm sure Mrs. Lay isn't working at WalMart to supplement her income.

John Gotti used to have wonderful firework displays every 4th of July for the people in his neighborhood. Of course, he was also murdering people with chainsaws, but who cares. Those fireworks sure were pretty!

So Aceshigh7 likes ken lay and hates immigrants for breaking into this country. get your priorities straight dude. I'm not jumping on the hate ken lay pile, but given your past post on the poor who only want a piece of the american opportunity, your defense of lay is disturbing.

My point exactly. The government will treat Lay's assets as they would any Mafioso, and they will succeed.

well, i don't wanna hate anyone for the sake of just hating, but he was found guilty by the court of law and by a jury of his peers. that's enough convincing for me. given the severity of the concequences and the lack of morals of his actions, i find it reaaaaaaaalllllly difficult for anyone to feel sorry for him unless you're a family member and even then it'd be difficult for me.
