Let us not forget all the great things Ken Lay did for Houston as well. He did his best to elevate our city on the world stage.

If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have our beautiful baseball stadium and the Astros would probably be playing in another city just like the Oilers. Do you realize that Enron contributed 100 million dollars towards our ballpark?

Also, if it weren't for Ken Lay, the downtown gentrification projects would have never taken place. He was extremely civic minded. Anyone remember what a nasty crime ridden slum downtown was back in the late 80's & early 90's? How would you like to have that back?

i've known people who have had their retirement scammed from them. i see this stuff all the time, as i find myself in case after case revolving around breach of fiduciary duty.

people make choices to live in that hate or anger forever...or find a way to forgive and move on. all i'm saying is that, however justifiable, there is a cost to living with anger and hate. a very real cost. i've seen it paid and i've seen it avoided by clients and friends.

that's part of what makes this tragic. but it's true for all of us. there's things we do that others would call "good"...and there's things we do that others would call "bad." we're not all in a position to pull off the kind of crap that Lay did...but i'm not talking about scale here.

reminds me of the move, "Crash." Just when you want to hate one of the characters for being a racist pig, you realize in some other facet of his life he's struggling for someone else. And just when you want to love one character because of his/her good deeds...they show a side of them that makes you dislike them. that's reality, folks.

He must be your daddy. The dude was a piece of **** and never got what he had coming to him. He deserved to lick the grape jelly out of Thunderdick's butt crack for the next 50 years. He ruined many people's lives. I'm sure Hitler did something nice every once in a while too but the bad outweighs the good.

And you must be one of those people that were so clueless about investing that they sunk their whole retirement into one stock. Enron employees had plenty of options other than keeping their whole retirement in ENE you know.

I never worked for Enron but it sure didn't help Houston's economy when thousands of people suddenly didn't have jobs. I also never personally knew anyone that lost money but I sure as hell could empathize with them.

So it's the employees fault that they got screwed over? Way to blame the victims.

Come on, anyone with any sense knows you have to diversify. If you hold the bulk of your retirement in one holding and it gets clobbered, you have absolutely no one to blame but yourself. Enron's retirement plans had other options. As retirement plans go, they had quite a variety of options for employees (notwithstanding that short lockout period when they changed plan administrators, but the stock had already been driven down big time by then)

Keeping the bulk of their retirement in ENE was a gamble those employees willingly took on because they got greedy and were addicted to 100 percent yearly returns. To call those who lost it all victims now is pretty hilarious.

Im pretty sure there was a video of Ken Lay encouraging everyone to hold on to as many shares of Enron as possible because the company was doing fantastic -as they were commtiting fraud.

It's not difficult to imagine why people would want to hold on.

True he did, but the stock was already in the cellar at the time he made that speech. Most of the equity had already been lost.

There's no argument here. I'm stating facts and it's impossible to argue with the facts.

come on. he cheated. he lied. he stole. that's indefensible. you can't agree to be defrauded. you can be an unwise investor..but that doesn't mean it's ok for someone else to prey upon you.

    hmmm ken lay...hitler

    ken lay...hitler
    ken lay...hitler

no offense, but I'm not quite comprehending your reasoning behind comparing the two?

One ruined many lives financially and emotionally. (I'm not trying to downplay the extent to which enron/lay affected people either)

The other was responsible for one of the most attrocious genocides in the history of mankind.

oh ok, i get it now

Yeah and that rape victim should have never been wearing that skirt. No matter what good he did in the community, he and his business partners were responsible for ruining the lives of thousands of families while they kept gathering millions.

well his family gets to keep all of his assets now.. Basically now his criminal case is thrown away.. the family does not have to forefit any assets as well. The civil case is the only way people will get money..
