A few things: First, the "exalted Christian" thing came off much snottier than I intended. I apologize. You don't offend me in the slightest. I see where you are coming from. I just disagree. I don't believe in original sin, or man's inherent evil. That's the great crutch and calling card of religion, but that's for another discussion... Second, the definition of moral relativisim, itself, has plenty of grey areas ; ). Moral relativism is not merely denying right or wrong...it is the sliding scale of right and wrong that stores up compassion and understanding for people like Ken Lay and leaves less for other criminals. I don't want to impugn your beliefs about this issue, but I am dubious about the wisdom of that article that Bigtexx quoted. I thought it was self-serving BS.
ok...here are my thoughts: 1. no problem. i just didn't understand you. 2. i guess i'm a moral relativist in the sense that i do have compassion for people who screw up. it's compassion in the sense of acknowledging my own weaknesses, as well. it's not so much a scale, though, because i don't tend to reserve it merely "for people like Ken Lay." or at least i don't try to. in all truth, i'm trying to follow Christ. that's it. his example was forgiveness and love for cheating tax collectors, for example. Ken Lay is a lot like Zacchaeus in the New Testament...a man who cheated lots of people. Z. eventually repaid the money he stole and then some. Lay didn't do that, admittedly. But Christ's mercy, grace and compassion came BEFORE Z. responded. I realize you don't subscribe to this viewpoint..that's fine. But hopefully it helps you understand mine.
If you go back to the old school days of the world, his family got off pretty light. Joshua 7:19-26 19 Then Joshua said to Achan, "My son, give glory to the LORD, [d] the God of Israel, and give him the praise. [e] Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me." 20 Achan replied, "It is true! I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done: 21 When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, [f] two hundred shekels [g] of silver and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, [h] I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath." 22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath. 23 They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the LORD. 24 Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold wedge, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor. 25 Joshua said, "Why have you brought this trouble on us? The LORD will bring trouble on you today." Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them. 26 Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the LORD turned from his fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor ever since.
I agree.. its too coincidental of the timing of it all and how they cremated him. Only evidence was some photos of death and the doctor who performed the autopsy. Photos could've been faked and doctor paid off or was one of his friends. He's probably on the beach somewhere laughing at us all.
Colt45, I think you need to get a dictionary and aquaint yourself with the difference between a contribution and a donation or a gift. Enron stepped up to the plate big time when the Astros needed it. At the time it was the 10th largest corporate sponsorship deal in history. I suppose you think it's quite easy to have a commitment like that just fall into your lap right? Your vile rhetoric smacks of someone who is either just plain immature and ignorant or someone with a grudge because of your own failures. Perhaps you lost some money in ENE? Judging by your attitude I certainly hope so.
at least 2. there was that guy baxter who "committed suicide" in his car right before he was scheduled to testify.
Its not a contribution, it was a business transaction. enron agreed to pay $100MM over 30 years, between 3 and 4MM a year, for the right to put their name on the stadium. have you watched professional sports over the last ten to fifteen years, it was nothing unusual. reliant stadium? toyota center? quit trying to act like it was some extrodinary act of goodwill.
Woah. Hold up. You're trying to pass off stadium naming rights as a contribution? Double-U Tee Eff. Way back when, when my dad's company ponied up money to pay for my little league team's jerseys and equipment, that, my friend, was a contribution. This, as pgabs stated before, is a business transaction.
lol I love how you dodged my last post when it proved you wrong. No apology, no taking anything back, just flat out dodging.
Dude I didn't respond because you didn't prove anything. I referred specifically to people who were charged with crimes, reggie white's crime was dying. I'm glad you were respectful of him at a time of death, and honestly I wish some of the guys in this thread would be more respectful of ken lay. but I didn't want to keep going back and forth with you, that's why I didn't respond.
technicalities. People were raking White over the coals, and he was certainly charged of a crime in the court of public opinion for making the un-pc statements that he did. It takes a big man to own up and apologize, but it takes a very small man to simply pull the race card willy nilly, like you did.
