Haha. If you think I wasn’t reading in 99 you’d be mistaken. Didn’t mean mean for that comment to sound as harsh as it reads. Really just making a joke at your stubbornness. To be clear Jake is without question more beloved.
Still refuses to admit defeat in writing. Not arguing is your version of “You’re correct Aaron. Jake is in the running for most beloved bench player in Astros history “. On brand.
You seem to want the reason to be sinister. Simply the fact they both are not good enough for our roster, yet the reactions to their DFA's was not equal. I guess Kemp is just more popular, despite not being a great deal more productive as White.
Admit defeat on an opinion? FWIW, I consider Jake to be more of a regular. He usually gets in games late if there’s a lead to protect... or he’s starting if there’s a flyball pitcher on the mound like JV. Kemp doesnt get starts unless somebody needs major rest or somebody is injured. He’s not a late inning defensive guy. I’m honored that you’ve posted more in this thread, responding to me, than any other time in the last 20 years.
It's more than just popularity when comparing Kemp to White. Many posters have already explained. Your comments on this subject seem uninformed/weird for someone who follows the team. It's cool though. No biggie
They might already have a trade but in place. I was surprised they traded White, with the mediocre year he’s been having...
Are you this dense? In big spots, White simply sucked, struck out with the bases loaded several times, and has had more opportunities. Kemp put up slightly better numbers in limited opportunities, and still contributed more psychologically in the club house. Also, Kemp played well for a few good seasons, had big clutch hits, where White has not produced efficiently in any season.
To be fair, this is 100% speculation by fans. No one here has any idea how Kemp or White were viewed in the clubhouse or how players view each one's release. We saw in Reddick and McHugh's families' reactions that White was well-loved too. White sucked this year - no question about that, and it was time to move on. But he was really good last year in a similar number of at-bats, with a nearly 0.900 OPS overall and over 1.000 with people on base.
Kemp was a solid well liked player but this is baseball.....in 10 years no one starting for this team will be there. ...and for White we got a pitching prospect from the Dodgers. "The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced their trade of pitching prospect Andre Scrubb to the Houston Astros in exchange for first baseman Tyler White." Andre Scrubb (24 year old) AA: 29 games pitched 2.45 era. Live arm and can be erratic. Not a bad switch for a team that needs pitching.
White had six at bats with the bases loaded this year. Struck out twice and had a .967 OPS. You don't need to make up stats to prove that White sucked for the most part this season.
Many of fans on this board (and off) would seem to disagree with this sentiment. In other words... #HugsForHomers: Dare I say it....... Here's to hoping he's not a Scrubb.
Actually didn't like it either though he had good intentions. It was weird seeing a little man jump up, mount, and dry hump our players after a HR.
