mutombo thinks he has one year left. so what are you going to tell him? please retire because we need kelvin cato? he probably would lose all interest in a coaching job in the second you tell him that.

and what's up with your przybilla idea? where do you get the money from? joel might not be the most skilled big man, but he can defend, rebound and block a couple of shots. and he's still young. he'll most likely get the full mle from a team, that lacks a true center. maybe even more. just ask jerome james...

    I meant:

He (cato) couldn't spell Yao. Sorry, I seriously didn't meant "you." I'm going to bed before I accidently insult anyone else.

No offense, but how did you find out Cato is dumb as a box of rocks? Do you personally know him or somehow you know his IQ test scorer?

In addition to having insulted someone accidentally in this thread, you have also insulted another person without any grounds.

I wouldn't mind bringing back Cato at the right price, that means for cheap, and I mean real cheap. We just need a backup that can give Yao 8 maybe 10 minutes of rest.

We sign SS for MLE and why not Keto for LLE
Keto defense and board are way better than SS offense and he can bulk space

I'm saying exactly what I said. I said his best year as a Rocket is when he started for us at 4. Why? I dunno.

9 times outta 10 last season, the first backup center is Swift. Mutombo only came in for certain matchups.

In the new NBA, things arn't what you expect them to be.

league minimum...funny. I don't disagree in terms of what I would pay him as a GM.....but let's be serious. In this day and age of the NBA, guys with size like Cato get way overpaid! Dont be surprised when one team looking for size at the C spot pays Cato FULL MLE money. You dont have to look far to see what guys like Dan Gadzuric and Etan Thomas got or perhaps Brian Skinner. Maybe not FULL MLE money on max years but close.

Okay, then I'm not really sure what the point of that comment was if it's not to insinuate he's a better 4 than a 5, as everyone knows that... I've been a Rockets fan for awhile too, ya know.

I know Swift played a lot of center last season. Also, Juwan and Wesley were starting. Just because it was that way last season shouldn't make you okay with it.

And I know there are a lack of real centers left in the NBA. I was just commenting on that to my brother while watching Suns-Mavs last night. The Suns don't have one real center on their roster. However, I still hold the old-school belief that true centers are the way to go, and just one reason the Mavs won, IMO, was because Diop gave them problems. Without him Diaw was scoring at will. I don't want that to be us.

For us, he was a better 4 than a 5. We already have Swift and Deke playing backup 5. By a LONG shot, center is the least of our concerns. If Cato can still play some 4 for us and play at the league min, then great. Otherwise, I'll pass.

I actually liked Swift playing backup 5 better than PF given today's lack of true 5's and given that Swift sucks at PF. Swift is perfect for matching up teams that are quicker than us ...at center... but he gets used at PF against pretty much every team in the league.

Yes. I would sign him. He was an excellent compliment to Yao. He can shoot the jumper, go in and dunk, get rebounds on both ends and play defense. He's worth considering. Especially because of his last season in Houston.

all of those guys are better than Cato, neither of them are the offensive liability he is. I don't see demand for a power forward who rebounds occasionally and has not shot outside of three feet. even nba gms are smarter than that hopefully.

Cato is a 7 pt. 7 rebound guy shooting at 50 percent for his career in 25 minutes of play. Don't forget that he stays away from yao and CAN hit a jumper.

Cato owes half of whatever post-Rockets money he made to Steve Francis. Without those plays he was practically useless.

I'm sure you're right regarding his perceived, "value," as a 5, in certain quarters of the league. The problem around here is that we're all so familiar with Kelvin's peccadilloes, that the minimum is about the most any of us could see paying him, and not be feeling like we were the biggest chumps in the NBA. Considering what we got out of him, in relation to his contract, he bloody well owes us a couple of seasons at the minimum, lol!

This guy was the last to get back from each side of the court when he was down here.. and now that he is older he is just plain useless. I wouldn't resign him.. worthless without Francis.
