drapg, I like you so I am going to keep this as civil as I can; however, your attitude is classic towards Miami. It is one that I see all the time from the media and other people who can't stand to see them being good. I guess I should be flattered because you have to be good to be hated. But it kills me to see people, like yourself, who are intelligent believing **** from the media. I guess I can't blame you for believing tools like Mark May and Trev Alberts since they work at the same place like you. But did you know, drapg, that on the Hurricanes BBS that there are cane fans wanting Coker fired? They claim that he is too nice and that they need to get the swagger back that was there under Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson. But listening to people like you and Mark May, you would never guess that because "the program is out of control". Gimme a fuggin' break. It is because of that type of thinking, that it is pointless to argue with you.
Winslow shouldn't talk to the media after a loss. Actually he should never talk to the media. I doubt he's learned his lesson, but people are overreacting. I hate sportswriters, sports media, and people who make the biggest deal out of stupid things.
The Apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. Winslow Sr is a crying lil biotch who can't hold his tongue either. Most recent example is he still goes on sports talk shows and cries about OSU beating Miami. You're an old man Winslow no one cares about your freaking opinion about a game you didn't play in. It's grea that he made the mistake of agreeing to come on a Columus station and he started his speel 9they easily bated him into it) and in the background they started teh crying baby sounds inteh background. he got so ticked he hung up in mid-sentence. But he and his sons are great talents. But his son is PUNK. Every catch has him acting like he made the greatest play in the history of football. PS - Winslow JR you are not a soldier. PSS - Sorry Manny not attacking you or your team just the player.
I don't know why Manny thinks this is an attack against Miami...I don't think that was the aim of this thread. Winslow opened himself up to trouble when he started his little rant. I don't have a problem with Miami, they are by far my favorite Florida team, but Winslow was acting like a... as he would say... "FREAKIN'" junior high player. These are supposed to be grown men. That was just embarressing. I wouldn't have had such a problem with the rant except for the fact that he stood over the player he hit. I am all about big blocks, just be mature about it after you take someone's head off. He was right, he is a soldier and they did want to take him out of the game. You just need to also have the maturity of a soldier to go along with the killer instinct. The player who really has a complaint with the refs is that Florida State lineman who was pushed into the guy on the other team and ejected for a late hit. That was just sorrowful to watch. I felt really bad for him.
He is not a soldier. Once he picks up a weapon and goes and protects our country he can be a soldier. He is a football player.
You know what he meant. I don't think he is stupid enough to demean the miltary (especially during this time), but people use the analogy of going to war all the time. It's more the idea of him talking about hurting a player and just him being immature in general over the last few years that's a problem.
Chuckie, I understand what you mean, so don't worry about it. Winslow apologizes... Winslow 'Regrets' Making Comments CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami tight end Kellen Winslow apologized Sunday for ripping officials and comparing himself to a soldier after Tennessee's 10-6 win over the Hurricanes. Winslow lashed out at Southeastern Conference officials Saturday, saying they targeted him during the game. Winslow, the son of NFL Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow Sr., caught seven passes for 88 yards but had a costly 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct in the fourth quarter. He also nearly got flagged for standing over and taunting a shaken Corey Campbell after a hard-hitting block in the third quarter. "It's war," Winslow said Saturday, his voice raised in the locker room. "They're out there to kill you, so I'm out there to kill them. We don't care about anybody but this U. They're going after my legs. I'm going to come right back at them. I'm a ... soldier." In a statement released through the university Sunday, Winslow apologized for his comments. "After speaking with the press, I immediately regretted my comments and felt embarrassed for my family, my team, the University of Miami, our fans, alumni and myself," Winslow said. "What I have learned from this experience is to take my triumphs and failures in stride. My outburst should in no shape or form be a reflection on this institution or the Miami football program. "As for my reference to being a soldier in a war, I meant no disrespect to the men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in the armed forces. I cannot begin to imagine the magnitude of war or its consequences."
I respect that in some way...I like guys who can get fired up but he went over the line...loooks like he is still a good kid...
Someone needs to remind this assclown he is a football player, not a soldier. If he wants to be a soldier, lets send his b**** ass over to Iraq. I'd love to see how humbled he becomes after a few months running patrols in Baghdad instead of crossroutes on the football field.
I think ya'll are getting a little too literal here.... I mean if JVG comes out the next game and says to Yao "You were a beast out there!" do you think he wants the keepers to come and take him back to the zoo? I wasn't so offened that he likened himself to a soldier, as in he is a soldier for his team, as in he soldiers a cause. It was just a little over dramatic a display of frustration, making him look a little foolish. I am sure he regrets it, hence his apology. This is a popular mistake of many pro athletes, talking to the media while emotions are high. Bad idea.
A football player needs the mentality that he is a solider. Is he a solider? obviously not. But you need that mentality or your probaly going to get hurt.
Of course it matters. If he truly feels sorry for the things he said, good for him. However it seems like a canned response. In other words, I think someone else wrote those words and he simply repeated them.
Man, I learn great stuff on this board every day! The newest: national figures, whether it is in sports or politics or whatever, must apologize in person to this entire board for an apology to "mean" something.
