What you guys will be suprised at will be his mid range jump shot. It was his bread and butter @ McNeese, he just isn't comfortable yet. I think he could have some young Eric Snow in him.
No he didn't. You are spun around in your mind. I've been laughing at this for 4 months now with the regulars in my area at the Summit. Last night I told Crisco and R0ckets03 to look for it. I mean, how many left angle right-handers by a PG do you need to see to start worrying about his left hand. It starts with the very first one you see. That was 4 months ago. He has not put up a left hander, yet. He goes out of his way not to. Watch!!! btw: your point about a better "spark" is irrelevant when the NBA exposes his no-existent left. You speak to soon, grasshopper.
Players like Norris shouldn't ever hold out. Colson,Jones, or Brown could have been the backup for this team. I wish I could have seen some of the teams that were lining up to sign Moochie. Other than Hakeem ,no team really wanted any of our players.
Don't you think that it is "speaking too soon, grasshopper" to think that player with enough talent to get to the NBA could never develop a left handed layup? Like you say, he obviously goes out of his way to not shoot them. Perhaps this is because he never really learned them, and nobody forced him to. But if this lack of ability is uncovered in the NBA, then maybe he can just practice them. I don't really see why it would be a problem. He can dribble well with his left hand. That much I have seen, so it is not a matter of him just being uncoordinated with it...I think he is just out of practice (or perhaps he was never "in" practice to begin with. The result is the same). Hell, left handed layups are not difficult by any stretch of the imagination, and I can't fathom how an NBA caliber PG could not learn them at some point. But the kind of energy and fast break pressure that Tierre runs is not something I ever see Moochie developing. He just takes it too easy and is way too content to just dribble dribble dribble the shot clock away.
anyone see how damon jones could almost start in detroit? he's a super quality pg and would have been way better to pay the money we give mooch this topic however is pretty much never going to happen. there's something about mooch, francis and mobley that won't be broken up sadly. i frankly would rather have damon, tierre and brent barry or someone such and be paying other guys big bucks
Moochie wouldn't be the first fan favorite to be traded. I have a feeling that some good off-season personnel moves resulting in a winning record for the first two months of the 2002-2003 season and the Moochie bobble-heads would windup on e-bay just in time for Christmas 2002. But as expressed earlier, a Moochie trade is not likely to happen.
Face it, were stuck with Moochie and the 3 guard line-up. Moochie is not even a top backup PG in the league, who would want to take on his contract. The Rockets were fools to give him that contract, just like the Maloney's before. Fan favorite does not mean squat, what fans are we talking about anyway? The few that actually go to the games? A winning record will put fans in the stands, not Moochie.
I am definately for Tierre over Mooch. Yes, Mooch can "shake and bake" like no bodies business, but who cares! He sits there and wastes the clock every single time. Get up and down the court, dish out the ball, and be a point guard! Tierre does it, and with more time, he can pull it off much better. Wonder why we go into the Fourth winning and than crash and burn every game? Simple...we drop down to that r****ded small lineup and lose. I'm sorry, I'd use Mooch as trade bate if we could. Somebody has got to want him. Knicks maybe. Howyalikemenow
Moochie's not going to be traded, they went through all that trouble to sign him to an overpaid contract and I doubt they'd drop it unless a really, really good offer came up. I really hope they keep Tierre next season, but I think they might let him go regretfully. Tierre does have a mid range jumper that is pretty solid, it's just hard to get them consistent when your playing time is so inconsistent. Some people need to find a rhythm more than others. I seriously doubt he has NO left-hand. He might favor his right hand, but so do many others. We're asking him to run a fast-break offense and get people involved. He seems to do that well and has a pretty good finish even if he is avoiding his left. (I'm not sure if you're even correct, because it's hard to evaluate someone who hardly gets to play, but I don't think it would take much effort to learn left handed layups, he can already handle fine with his left) If you read the article in the Chronicle today, Tierre says he really wants to stay even if he gets hardly any burn because he likes the team and thinks he can contribute. Hopefully Rudy will realize that Tierre has a lot of potential and is worth keeping. The only people we should cut are Collier and might have to cut Torres or Langhi. I don't know the situation with Walt, but if we keep the pick from Toronto and Lotto pick, how many people would be on our roster minus Collier. Anyway I think I went off topic, but the point is I don't think we'll keep Tierre even though I really hope they do. You can't say Moochie is better or worse because they're 2 different styles. Mooch has really good chemistry with steve and cat, can hit the clutch shots, and can penetrate decently. Tierre can hit mid-range shots, has good handles, really quick, runs well, hustles, and most importantly runs the offense in a much more effective way than mooch. He passes to create for others, not just because he has to pass. Moochies weaknesses are obviously dribbling too much(sometimes not his fault) and trying to create fouls which aren't always called. Tierre's are just trying to be consistent(which is hard with little PT) and not turning it over(Look at steve, plus he's only a rookie so give him a break). I hope they keep both, and Rudy settles down on the 3 guard lineup, but who knows what will happen regarding the draft and offseason....
nice right hander, shield your man with your back....again on the left side, that's sooooooooooo blocked in real NBA games. Tierre...come back when you have a left hand layup or when you are at least taller than me. Moochie is the backup. If you can't make a left handed layup as a PG at age 23, ... next
crispee - are you in some way suggesting that Moochie is the epitome of ambidexerity? Moochie is a better PG overall than TB, but I'd be more inclined to believe that most of the difference is experience and not abilities with the non-dominant hand. You tape/watch alot of games...surely you hear the opposing announcers mention overplaying Moochie to his left and forcing him right? It's not likely Moochie is going anywhere soon, but if his salary/ability were needed to move up to get Ming, something tells me you could live with Tierre if Yao was the center.
making a left-handed layup is not about being ambidextrous...it is about being a point guard. And Tierre can't do it. Moochie has an uncanny ability to hit all sorts of layups from all angles. Looks to me like he fakes left to go right. Doesn't matter which way you make him go. You make Tierre go left and he will try to lay it up by doing a 270 spin move or a reverse. That will get blocked as soon as Tierre gets consistent minutes. Why did someone in this thread say that left-handers are easy to learn, so I'm being premature in my scouting of him. No I'm not. I'm just scouting him. When Tierre learns a left, show me some tape, then we can discuss whether he's got potential. Until then, his NBA days are numbered, and he better hope that we trade that #15 pick, because there is not enough room on this roster next year without canning Langhi and Tierre or a new rookie...what will it be??? A rookie just drafted who hasn't been given a chance, or a 3rd yr and 2nd yr who got their chance? I like Tierre...but I don't understand threads like this started after watching one game by a scrub and declaring him better than the guy who gets the minutes. Why do we do that?
No one said he was better, just that the ROCKETS would be better trading Mooch and letting TB develop. I think the key here is that he provides a DIFFERENT look as a backup PG, not to mention it gets rid of the crappy small ball that Rudy loves. DaDakota
I'm not against trading Moochie to leave us with a Brown caliber backup point. Did I say that Tierre is ripped!!!! The Power Dancers were all google eyed over him when he took his shirt off during Rudy's speech! Mobley is still sexier, though. Where are you going with that nice suit if you have the flu, Cuttino??
I'll let this thread explain my feelings on the matter: I will add, though, that if we can find a sucker, I mean, team to take on Moochie's contract, then we need to jump on that deal.
Crispee, What was that about left handed layups? First 2 minutes of the game tonight against Portland, and TB hits a sweet left handed layup over 2 people. DaDakota
I think Tierre was playing for a roster spot next season, so he dang better make those shots. If Oscar would cut back on those threes, he was on fire from two point land...
crispee, you seem to be working on a different definition of potential than I do. We can't discuss whether a player has potential until a player learns a left-handed layup? (a move which you DID NOT deny was easy to learn) Is it not possible for a player to have potential without having learned a crucial move? I haven't seen any other good reasons as to why Tierre doesn't play the backup PG at least as well as Moochie than the left-handed one, and yet you are so quick to dismiss him because of this. Personally, I look at it like this: Tierre is an NBA caliber PG. Therefore, Tierre has good skills and NBA caliber physical ability. Tierre can dribble fine with his left hand. I conclude that, with a little practice (largely guided by Rudy and Co.) Tierre could easily learn to hit a left handed layup. I think that is reason enough to at least DISCUSS Tierre's potential. But then again, that's just me.
Raven...I do not "dismiss" Tierre...I just do not think about him much. yep...I saw it. 6 footer...sweep shot....nice. Now, if you want to back off your earlier claim of 2 games ago that you saw a left hand reverse which was totally bogus...maybe we can talk about the importance of what you just saw. Go ahead DaD...It is your scouting ability...you can either attempt to save face with the BBS, or me...what will it be??
