I like both Rubio and Curry, but they are rookies...and would not count on them for a couple of years......Brooks will be better than that THIS YEAR....

It is Yao's last year before he can opt out, you can not afford to step BACKWARDS or Yao will leave....

Got to think more than just what is right in front when talking about the team and moves.

like DD said, he just freakin' started 30 games. he'll get better. nobody expects him to be a great PG, but do we really need a true PG?

    brooks is a bonafide scorer.

Adelman's system does not require a traditional PG, it needs one that can score and make a pass.

    Brooks fits perfectly....

Don't count road games vs. Blazers.

Game 1 was a total blow out because of Yao.

Game 2 he had 12 points on bad percentage until final minutes when game was out of reach and Blazers players stopped defending his 3 pointers.

Game 5 20 shots for 13 points was a disaster.

Against Lakers, he was getting hot. Look at his stats, it was Steve Francis minus rebounds. He's a shooting guard in a PG's body, a poor man's Steve Francis will be his ceiling because he'd never be a rebounder Francis was. I don't see why such a player is untouchbal.

^^^^^^ What does that all mean? Only look at the games he struggled?

That has to be one of the worst arguments I have ever read. EVER !

Here is what it sounds like

Ok guys, only look at his crap games, see....that is why I say he sucks...because well, he sucked during his crappy games.

Pay no attention to the man behind the green curtain, or his GOOD games where he actually led the team to victory, those should not count.

    WTF??????

DD you sound like you would get hit by a car to keep AB on the team. lol

He turns the ball over too much and isn't a pure traditional PG. He also a defensive liability. If he doesn't score the ball for us then he basically turns useless for the team. Like CHuck Hayes with no defense. :D

Brooks was inconsistent and showed some mental fragility. He admitted to losing his way when Alston reclaimed the starting position after being out injured.

If Brooks goes into next season as the starting PG that's OK. If Morey decides to trade him to upgrade the team that's good too.

WE DON'T NEED A TRADITIONAL PG ON THIS TEAM.....The Lakers just won the championship with a NON TRADITIONAL PG.

His defense was fine in the playoffs, he shut down CP3, Harris and Chauncey during the regular season.....oh, maybe those games should not count too?

Bonafida scorer? 43% with 35% 3 pointers for 15 ppg against slow unathletic PGs is by no means bonafider scorer.

Sure he'll get better,Lowry will get better, Lubio will get better. But who has the higher ceiling? I don't think Brooks has, because he doesn't have other attributes to make the team better on the days his shots are not falling.

BTW, we do need a PG who can run the team besides shooting resonably well.
PG is still our weakest link at this moment.

    DD,
I think that Aaron Brooks does bring up a few question marks. Does he really run the point effeciently enough to get everyone involved? Probably not. Is he the kind of player that makes game decision plays? Yes, but needs more consistentcy. Is Aaron Brooks a guy they believe they should hold on to? Many times when players hit free agency from rookie contacts, they tend to do two things: move closer to home or take the money. I'm not sure on his true intensions on his career. I'm sure it could bring up some looming questions to the front office. Personally, I think you got to keep Brooks. He creates mismatches at time. He does get out muscled by certain points in this league. But then again, he often uses his speed and shooting ability to work other points in the league (see DerekFisher.com). Personally, I think you got to keep Brooks. He is a talent. I think the vets respect him, and feel comfortable with him taking some big shots. He is a differnce maker.

You do know that Yao can opt out right? So, you are willing to draft a younger PG and put winning off a few more years?

Meanwhile, Yao gets tired and leaves because the franchise is screwing around and taking steps back in HOPES that one of these guys can develop at some point in the future...

I am not on the Brooks bandwagon. We really don't need a SG in a PG's body. Have you checked out his assist numbers? Not the next coming of TP; TP lite at best if we are lucky.

Trade him while his value is high.

The thing is only one of Brooks/Lowry can start, and if one of the rookies is a better prospect you can have them start the year as the back up PG, that way you don't lose much production from the PG spot at the start of the season, but have potential for improvement come the playoffs and beyond. I've only seen highlights of Rubio and Curry, and I don't know how to judge them based on the inferior competition they are playing; but if management thinks they have star potential they shouldn't be hesitating over Brooks or Lowry.

like i said, he was basically still 1st year starter (half a year basically). what do u want? star status already?

the fact that he played like he did (16ppg on 45%fg and 41% 3s) for the entire playoffs v. 2 good teams tell you a lot. both mcmillan and phil jackson began doubling brooks off of pick and roll LIKE CRAZY (only a healthy tracy mcgrady garnered that type of attention) b/c he was so elusive.

brooks is PERFECT for adelman's offense. had we have a healthy tracy or a playmaking wing, brooks would be even scarier b/c we wouldn't depend on him to make plays (hence the TOs) but to FINISH plays.

Aaron Brooks is a scoring point guard, who can't run a team efficiently as a point guard, nor score efficiently as a scoring guard.

I think we are resigned to the fact that, as speedy as he may be, he cannot use his physical abilities to effectively run a team because of his lack of decision making. His one saving grace is supposedly his scoring ability. Yet for a scoring guard he shoots a dreadful 40% from the field, dispelling any Tony Parker delusions.

He did score efficiently in the playoffs' small sample size. However if you look carefully, every one of his best games came either with Yao off the court- second half of game 1 Portland, or without Yao entirely- against LAL.

The fact that he is more efficient without Yao clogging the lanes may not be surprising, still we are not going to cater to Brooks with this team built around Yao. With Yao back next year, we can expect Aaron's trade value to be at an all time high right now, falling back to earth once Yao is in the lineup.

Another question is how much better can he get? Contrary to popular belief, I think he doesn't have much more to grow. He is 25 and is not young. He has had 4 years of college. Surprisingly, for a much touted shooter, he only shot well his senior year. He isn't getting any taller. And I very much doubt he will ever learn to run a team. Honestly, at 22 years old, Lowry has MUCH more potential, and has already shown that he can run and team and provide defense and intangibles. All he needs is to improve his shot which is very possible.

I'm not saying we should give Brooks away, but if we have the chance to acquire a real difference maker, or someone with real potential ala Rubio, Brooks is a small price to pay along side Tmac.

actually it was 45% fg and 42% 3pt in the playoffs. like i said, for a first year starter, that's some bonafide good stuff.

the fact of the matter is, no perimeter player can do what brooks does on our team (b/c tracy is out). NOBODY.

I assume you were replying my post to tmac1.

I was just pointing out AB's road game against Blazers didn't make him a "big time player", as he said in his post. Nothing else. don't look too much into that.

AB is an asset because of his scoring ability. But he's not an all star type of asset, he doesn't have other stuff to back him up when he couldn't score.

That type of asset is by no means "untouchable". This is the conclusion based on not only his bad games, but his good games as well.

he didn't shutdown all of them on his own. it was team defense. come-on....WOW! now AB is a shutdown defender that can stop the best PGs in the game.
